I think EPDM is the best roof available for flat roofs. You can have rigid foam insulation installed on top of the roof deck, which is then covered by the membrane. The foam can also be tapered, which eliminates puddling that may occur. In looking at the pictures of your house, I would think each se...

I still wonder why they didn't put it through the whole house. But I do have friends whose terrazzo goes through the whole house .... it was ruined, though, so they had to cover it anyway. I've thought about wood, but I also like the looks of the polished concrete. I'm leery of the dust and the upr...

Re: Doorbell

We purchased the Jensen designed B&O wireless doorbell for our other house, because our gate was 100 feet away from the front door. It worked well and has a number of different tones. It fit perfectly into the original door bell box in our current house. http://www.jacobjensen.com/#/int/collect...

Those of you with terrazzo though the whole house, count your blessings... our house has some terrazzo and concrete elsewhere, with carpet over the concrete. Hi, Our terrazzo also isn't through the entire house. It's just in the kitchen, the bathrooms, the hallway and the laundry closet. The other ...

I think Kohler used to make a square tub, but it's been discontinued. Your tub seems perfect for bathing kids. I also like the shelf--it looks like a good place to prop your feet when shaving! Are you sure you can't live w/o a big tub? I just ask b/c in our last house, we had a huge whirlpool tub. D...

Not to bring the conversation down but I grew up near a family who had an indoor planter similar to those shown and they found that it was a major source of Radon contamination in their house. I don't know if that's normal or not but something to be aware of. How odd. Was it the soil? Our plants ar...

My chairs I found curbside are almost done I just need to pick a fabric. Which one do you think is more appropriate for a minimalist home. The floor is concrete thats been painted brown. I would look in the yellow pages for a roofer that either does commercial roofs or does EPDM or modified bitumen. Angies list may be able to narrow the choices to call, if they have a Denver chapter. Get your own estimates and do not rely on a possible "low ball" estimate from the seller. ...

I caught a tv-movie the other night called Deadly Relations. It starred some big names before they were big: Gwyneth Paltrow and Matthew Perry. It also starred a fantastic house. Thanks for information. We had the floors honed when we bought the house, and it made a huge difference. It was expensive, which is why I'm so worried about using the wrong cleaner. I'll definitely check out the Stonecare product. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Cleaning terrazzo floors

Hi,

We have vitrified cement-based terrazzo floors (not tiles) in our home, which are original to the house. From what I've read, we should use a neutral liquid cleanser with a pH factor between 7 and 10 to clean the terrazzo. Can anyone recommend a cleanser? I appreciate any suggestions.

Do you mean for countertops or for other things as well? I think natural materials have a place in MCM homes. The Noguchi table, for instance, is walnut and glass. Eames' stools are walnut. In fact, I think many MCM homes emphasize nature, so natural materials look, well, natural in those homes. Of ...
