I agree with Kimba's post! :D

That Motel Somerset sign behind the Somerset Shopping Center sign is great, also! Is that still standing? Got any close ups of it?

Love those big old Arby's signs! Glad to see there are a few still left. I have seen one recently in Orange county and one in Fort Lauderdale. Don't know how many are left.

Mearle's Drive-In in Visalia Closes

After 66 years, it looks like it's light's out for Mearles Drive-in. :(

I didn't even get the chance to get in there and get one last burger. Bummer!

Thanks for posting a pic. Ton's of potential there, for sure! Maybe you can post progressive pics as you go along with the restoration (please :) ). The metal thing on top looks like it was added later. Are you going to remove that? Anyway, best wishes on your efforts!

This station is SOOOOOOOOO kewl! And do you know why I'm so happy to see it spotlighted? We also are restoring a service station! We own an old 76 station in Harrisburg, Oregon! We have it painted appropriately, and we have the pumps! I'll look around and see if I can find some pictures of it to po...

Another sign of what I believe is to come. I think many people are longing for simpler pleasures. There seems to be a fascination with older times that I am noticing amongst my generation (I'm 33). I am happy to see the renewed interest in Drive-in movies. Sadly, so many great Drive-ins have been kn...

Restored 1930's Richfield Service Station in Coalinga

Here is a neat article about a restored 1930's Richfield service station in Coalinga (in Western Fresno County). It's so nice to see this place restored to original condition. It is owned by a local museum and it appers to be garnering a lot of interest. I'm going to have to take a drive over there ...

Wow, a gas station with a B-17 for a roof! That's quite the interesting roadside sight. It's no surprise that the B-17 is going to get restored, though. Those babies are very sought after if the airframe is in good shape. That thing might fly again! As an aircraft nut, I am glad the B-17 will get re...

Bummer that they castrated the original sign pole. At least the new one is not a "monument" sign. Do you know where that location is?

Isn't it odd that Denny's uses that fake 50's look when they "dinerize" their units, but the original desing is the real deal.

I don't know, Dusty... So far (and as you probably realized) many of the buildings are slowly becoming degraded. Many are still standing because blackstone is not considered a really attractive commercial area, unlike River Park, or other areas in North Fresno. A lot of original architectural detai...

Those are some neat looking water towers. The conversions to houses are just too cool! I have seen that one in Seal Beach and wondered what the deal was. Here in Fresno we have a beautiful old restored water tower. It is used as a visitor info center. Here is a link: http://historicfresno.org/photo/...

Does anyone know if any of the many orange stands still exist on the 99? I think they were north of Fresno, for the most part. Seems like there still was one on the east side of the highway last time I was down that road, about 5 years ago. For those who aren't familiar with the 99, they were build...

More roadside pics from the Central Valley

Here are a few pics of some roadside stops along I-5 in Fresno County. First is the famous Harris Ranch. Here is their sign. I am always by there in the daytime, but does anyone know what color the neon is on this thing at night? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/Dustyman73/Roadside/HarrisRanch...
