Cool Book!

I just picked up this cool book at Borders in the bargain section for $3.99! It's called The Vintage House Book by Tad Burness. It's cover to cover with great illustrations of homes, interiors, furnishings, fixtures, ads, etc. of times past, including a lot of good mid century stuff. Best $3.99 book...

I've gotta check this place out next time I'm in Vegas. I pumped quite a few quarters through pinball machines when I was growing up. I liked them better than the arcade games. This has got to be a cool place. I like this quote: "You can hear the old games have bells, mechanical bells, I miss t...

Sad to see this go...Wendy's is a part of modern American culture, and this first location has significance. Anyone know what the oldest remaining location will be? I wonder if there are any other early locations around that still have the tiffany lamp/newsprint formica tabletop decor that Wendy's w...

I'm curious as to how it's going to turn out, too. From what I have seen Mel's do to the other places, I think it won't be a generic place. Mel's seems to be deliberate in keeping their drive-ins as unique places. Hopefully that will be the case with the Parasol. Does anybody know if the sign is sti...

I'm not sure which way you'll be heading up towards Sac/Bay area, but if your headed up 99, grab a bite at Latif's in Turlock. It's on Golden State Blvd, just a short jaunt off 99. Latif's is a great googie coffee shop, a step back in time, and its super friendly. Also, check out the Chicken Kitchen...

Those Farm Basket's are so cool looking. I would pop into a place like that for sure. Are they both still open? Also, that drive-thru wedding chapel (only in Vegas) sure tackified that old Bob's Big Boy! At least they kept the big sign.

Cool, thanks! It looks like there is even some neon tubing along the front of the A-frame. I must say, though, it now kinda looks like the worlds largest Wienerschnitzel. Not that there is anything wrong with that. :D

Kudo's to Pepe's for utilizing the original place so well.

Love the signage for the Gatewood and the Walden Motels. I am also glad that Pepe's Taco's kept the old IHOP sign. Do you have any exterior shot's of Pepe's? Is it an A-frame?

I am envious!! I have not been to Maui, but I have been to Oahu. Loved it! Whether or not you specifically find any MCM or Tiki, you'll most likely love Hawaii. Just don't get in a hurry for anything, because you will be the only one. The phrase "hang loose" has real meaning there! I can't...

Bob's Big Boy Toluca Lake - Pics from today

I went down to LA this weekend for a family thingy, and to stop by Planes of Fame in Chino. On the way back, We stopped at the original Big Boy for some grub. Here are a couple of pics I snapped. In that first pic, that nice blue Mustang rolled up at the perfect time, adding nicely to the pic. http:...

Very interesting building design in Miami

Here is a thread showing some renderings of a new "outside the box" residential tower that will be going up in Miami in the coming year. I'm seeing some flashback to the "swiss cheese" and "ameoba" design elements of the googie era. What do you guys think? It's definite...

Lynxwiler, thanks for the heads up on that book. Sounds like something good to add to the library. Fresno does have a lot of rusting old gems, especially along the 99/Golden State corrider. However, there are still some rather well maintained old goodies around town, also, especially along Blackston...

Re: Mold-a-Rama in Minnesota

There are a TON of these machines still in use at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN. Funny, my husband, daughter and I were just there and saw at least 5 of them (polar bear, lion, a seal, and some others I can't remember). We just moved back to the twin cities area where I grew up, and my hubby's getti...

Vess Bottle in St. Louis

I found this while surfin away on the net. It's a big neon soda bottle sign in St. Louis. According to this article, better times are ahead for this relic and the area that surrounds it.
