Sad to see it go! :(

Not only was the neon indian great, the boomerang with the starbursts was quite nice.

Hey, maybe they can put up one of those new box shaped jobbies....ugh!

Wow, another one gone. Does anyone know what will become of the building? Also, this might sound a little thick for someone who has been on this board for as long as I have, but what is the architectural name for the style of Genio's, with the old lanterns, metal scrollwork, and the fancy calligraph...

GOOGIE SIGNAGE!!!!!! Pretty much. I visited SoCal a lot over the years, but visits were limited to Orange County and San Francisco, not that those places are bad or anything. But in 1987, I finally rented a car and before heading to Big Sur, I visited a friend who was living in Mar Vista. Every nig...

Driving highway 99 at night from LA to Fresno past all those flickering neon relics from a simpler time. That was in the early 90's, but over the years I have been able to more get a handle on what I have been longing for. About 4 years ago, I stopped in for a late night bite at a Coffee Shop south ...

I think the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas has a bit of googie influence. Someone posted a link to it earlier somewhere on this message board, but I'll just post a link again.

HA! :D Thanks for the memories! I was raised in Bishop and my dad owns a little TV store there in Lone Pine :-) That's cool! Do you miss it there? I rather fell in love with Lone Pine. It's little, the scenery close by is stunning, and it's so laid back. I'd love to live there myself. Although I th...

Great pics of Vegas. Such an interesting place, and it definately marches to it's own beat. Last time I was in Vegas, we were out in front of the Candlelight wedding chapel waiting for my brother in law's turn to say "I do", and Elvis walks by, sequined suit, sunglasses and all, carrying a...

Pictures from Lone Pine, CA

Here are some pics I took from Lone Pine this weekend. Lone Pine is a little town (with a good bit of tourists) near Mt. Whitney in Inyo County. The area around Lone Pine is also the setting for hundreds of movies and TV shows, especially westerns. Here are the pics. First is the Dow Villa Motel tha...

Sweet! Nice starburst and everything. Looks to be in real good shape, too.

I really like the mood of that pic, too. Evening time, sign is lit, neon is flickering, just beckoning the tired traveler to pop in and get some rest.
