For some reason, I just love the doorknob topic :? Those handles above do, indeed, look similar to the bellwood knobs. They also lokk like a cross between the "Orbit" and "Bell" designs. I'm gonna se what I can scare up on these

I spent days looking for an alternative source for the Bellwood knobs sold by Liz's. As it turns out, these knobs are manufactured and distributed by a Schlage subsidiary in South America. Not only are they produced in the rounded handle version that Liz's has, but they are also made in the tulip ve...

Deagna, Your house looks very nice! Based on my experience, the best place to find vintage hardware of the type you are looking for is on Ebay. You might also consider Liz's antique hardware http://lahardware.com/ If they don't have what you are looking for on their site, it might be worth giving th...

Re: steel techbuilt specifics

All structural and building shell materials are steel. The interior walls are traditional wood stud & drywall construction. One interesting aspect is that there are no floor joists. The 1st floor ceiling is made from interlocking 16" wide channels that support the subfloor of the second fl...

Re: Techbuilt steel houses

The one for sale in Ohio is noted to be one of only two such Techbuilt steel houses. The other one was in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. (northern Westchester), on the same street as the elementary school I attended. It was a joint venture between Techbuilt and Armco Steel, built in the mid-1960's, and ope...

I like it as it is. You already have a grid of sorts, between the foyer and the living room. You don't want to compete with that, it seems to me; a new grid should faithfully echo that pattern or at least the placement of its horizontals. Nice looking home, from what I see ! SDR I agree with SDR. I...

Techbuilt houses were very interestingly designed (relatively) early pre-fabs. Here's a liitle bit of info: Carl Koch, designer of the Techbuilt House (1953), focused on a more systems-oriented approach by creating a consistent 4-footwide module for all major building components such as wall, floor,...

My inlaws live in Piqua, Ohio which is about 45 minutes away. We go there every X-mas. If this is still on the market then.....which it very well may be, I'm gonna go have a gander. Just came across this on eBay of all places. Very cool place. Unfortunately its been, "restored/updated by a professional designer." If I lived near Cinci, I think I'd snap it up in a flash eBay listing http://cgi.ebay.com/Mid-Century-Modern-Techbuilt-Steel-House_W0QQitemZ270179921552QQihZ...

I've found that many MCM post and beam homes originally featured beams either stained or painted in a color darker than the ceilings and walls. I looked at this issue myself. Even had one beam stripped back down to the original cedar. In the end, we decided to go dark. Here is some reference: http:/...

I could use some solid advice. I've owed three homes in my life, all in Nevada which doesn't really get very cold in winter. Last June I purchased my first MCM in denver colorado. I'm more than concerned about winterizing the house so that I don't do something stupid and have some plumbing freeze a...
