Looking for NuTone intercom part

I am looking for a NuTone #2081/2081 indoor speaker. This is an 8" speaker in a white plastic grille that's part of the #2071 AM/FM/phone/tape music system. 2081 has a volume control and 2081 does not. I'd prefer to find the one with the volume control. When I was installing some new hydronic h...

WTB: doorknob escutcheons

I'm looking for a pair of gold/brass doorknob escutcheons- either the large round style (about 7" ? dia) or starburst style. I may even consider the square/diamond stlye.

Another flip gone bad

http://www.prudentialpreferred.com MLS# 751682 This house was empty for a few years and all of the sudden, this happened. Before it was butchered in to a "McMini", it had a nice tar/gravel roof with large overhangs, windows that ran up into the peaks, full length beams under the roof overh...

Those low voltage units look nice and appear to be well-built, but when illuminated, they just don't look anything like a classic. The have a teeny little lightbulb inside instead of a large frosted glass bulb and they just don't cut it for looking correct when on. The LED ones are laughable unless ...

You are correct on not meeting code, but we don't have code Nazis in my township to worry about. We also don't follow BOCA or any other modern over-restricted code where I live. Unless it is inside on new construction or remodeling that requires inspection, it will never matter. Besides, it's easier...

Did you use low voltage or line voltage lighting for the effect lighting? I just laid 900 feet of conduit for 120 volt landscape lighting on my 96' long MCM ranch. It was the same way- the darkest house on the street. My 26 mushroom lights run at about 40% brighness using 15 watt lamps via a Leviton...

stepping stones

I need to install stepping stones from my driveway to the front porch. Anyone have any ideas what might look good for a 1965 ranch?

It's actually uncommon for stone like this. It's perfect, too. Not a crack anywhere. The gameroom's 3-sided fireplace is made from the same stone. I'll take pics of that soon. And yes- pull down the left side and there is a turntable. The right side had a rell-to-reel, but it is missing so I install...

Just bought a ranch

We just found a ranch after 3 years of searching for one like this. These are rare in PA. This one is 3400 square feet and has a finished basement game room. It was built in 1965 and has much of what was there originally. It's a shame it's as dirty as it is inside. More pics to come. http://s201.pho...

WTB: doorknobs & hardware

I'm looking for a SET of gold or bronze doorknobs and all installation hardware for in the CENTER of the doors. One can be a "dummy" knob, since the second door latches to the upper/lower jamb. These also need to have either the large 4-5" diameter circular escutcheons or starburst es...

I said a few days ago that I'd post some pics of Pittsburgh MCMs that I've seen in the area. There aren't many around here, but I'll find more. You're correct about the door, but I just love the starburst & center knob! They claim this house was build in 1967, but it almost appears to be about 10 years earlier than that. There are many more worth photographing on the same road. Next time I'm out that way, the camera will be with me. Any...

The front door isn't my favorite, but it was original. I'd prefer a smooth, clean door with center knob with starburst escutcheon. Actually, I'd prefer double doors. Yes, the whole neighborhood is MCM, except for one house that needs to go away. It sure does have the FLW feel ( I know what ya mean w...

I do mostly low voltage/high current DC and some AC (120/240) mostly in mobile environments. I never really mention that, however.

The frequency won't matter- the heater is only a resistor. Only certain types of induction motors will have a problem going from 50 to 60 Hz or vice versa. Chances are you don't have that style induction motor. Don't forget- if you run a 240V device on 120V using a transformer, you will double the o...

Great looking interior! Now that you've got to us ranch lovers, we must see exterior shots (and more interior). From the look of things, it appaears that your house were not some cheap, stripped down model back in the day (the intercom's the clue here). On that intercom, I'd convert it over to solid...

You'll notice that a 50's-60's Roman brick is always the same color scheme varying from the light orange to dark yellow with spots through it. The spots are from iron. You'll also notice the brick's face is a different characteristic than the main body for whatever reason. The face of the brick will...
