The Kaiser Bros. neon figural sign has been removed. Here's a Flickr.com example of a marquee-piece that was saved from the facade of an old theater and reused nearby. It looks kind of awkward, but it is a possibility.

La Villa Basque Restaurant and Coffee Shop, City of Vernon

Here's a surprise. While driving 'round Huntington Park and the City of Vernon I was pleased to discover the many incredible industrial buildings to the south of downtown Los Angeles, but what shocked me more was the discovery of La Villa Basque. No, I haven't tried the food as their hours are lunch...

This is a scary possibility. Of course Walgreen's has a hideous reputation when it comes to historic preservation of any kind so the possibilities of how it may damage the Golden Gate Theater are endless. That's fantastic news and I'm so glad the owners appreciate the sign enought to take it with them!

Wow! I've not heard of a grandfather clause applying to a moved sign. Still, I'm glad all is well with La Tolteca's neon.

As you know, I'm not a fan of re-purposing historic neon signage and believe the sign should the stay in its current location. However, who knows what new owners will do with it if it stays or how they will change it. In my opinion, once you alter the sign to advertise anything else, it loses its au...

Ah, I do see. With the exception of tossing the remains of the marquee into the trash, the plans actually look quite nice. The illustration of the back of the theater shows how both original FOX signs will be reused into a rear entry. I suspect the plan was once to use the whole marquee back there, ...
