http://www.bringingbackbroadway.com/images/uglybroadway.jpg Nichols! Where did you get this proposed rendering of the Roxie and Cameo Theaters without their marquees? I completely protest the removal of any of Broadway's theater marquees and will gladly behead whoever proposed such a notion. What a...

I saw that Van de Kamp's windmill on eBay as well and remembered when the owner last tried to sell it. Apparently, he tried to sell the windmill to the LA Community College people who are redeveloping the former bakery complex into an educational facility. It seems they were interested but wanted to...

Dangit! It ticks me off to see how cool the marquee letters were on the Olympic Theater. They were ripped off and trashed a few months ago when the marquee was turned into an advertising billboard.

Downey's historic resources may not run too deep, but with Harvey's Broiler, the oldest remaining McDonald's, the world's first Taco Bell, and the Carpenter home, I'd say the city should reassess its importance. If it celebrated these icons as much as we do and embraced mid-century cultural tourism,...

I went over the weekend and they get my seal of approval. Although the clutter and knickknacks have been cleared away, the overall feeling of the place is still there. The character and charm remains and the new owners have relit the place to better show off the arches and myriad chandeliers.

I'm really sorry I stopped here. It ruined the memories of the great old Parasol. I'd say skip it. The interior has become tacky kitsch 1950's and the management was rude. Based on the photos above, I'm sorry to say I think I'll pass on this Mel's. I remember the way the Parasol once was I'll miss ...

Sorry to report a rumor, but it appears the Nordic Fox is slated for closure.

I was told the owner of the building wants the Nordic Fox out of the A-frame space in order to convert it into a sports bar.

The closure could be as soon as this month (Nov 07).
