Canoga Park, CA - Darby's Coffee Shop remodeled

The delightfully intact Darby's Coffee Shop on Sherman Way in Canoga Park has been remodeled beyond recognition (as has the whole strip center it is in). Gone are the angled glass entry, stonework, and worst of all - the neon signs, front and rear. In their place is peach colored rectilinear stucco,...

What a fantastic house! I will join the crowd in asking you to re-consider painting the wood; somewhere on this site is a thread titled "100 ways to screw up you MCM house", and one of the entries is "ruining $50,000 worth of wood with a $20 can of paint" :) There is a place in C...

How about a little woodworking project?

Maybe some 2" or 3" squares of 1" thick solid oak, say, or maybe maple, and use a Dremel with a shaping bit on the end to rout out a channel for the end of the hairpin to sit in. Line the bottom with neoprene or felt?

I've seen an old photo postcard (circa 1965) of the corner of Sherman Way and Reseda Blvd, with the Reseda Theater sign prominently displayed, that shows what appears to be a giant donut store (you can see part of the donut) on the corner, but the sign says "Taco Drive-In". So perhaps this...

Cool car museum by the airport. They let you get in the cars, and on Sundays will take you for a spin around the block in a few of them:

Reseda, CA - nice 1956 Ranch House for sale $555,000

I'm selling my 1956 atomic ranch in Reseda - 1500 sq ft, 4 br, 1.75 baths. It's a nice house on a corner lot in a quiet area, in a neighborhood of similar 1950s and 60s houses. Newly refinished wood floors, with tile in the kitchen, laundry room and baths, and new carpet in two bedrooms. The kitchen...

IKEA is selling a reasonably stable knockoff of the Sarrinen table for about $150. I have one, it's OK but not great. West Los Angeles Courthouse

I just visited the West Los Angeles Courthouse, at 1633 Purdue Av. What a fantastic building! IT'S ALIVE!

After several years of hibernation I brought my 1965 Thunderbird back to life over the holiday break. I'd like to spill out a little brake fluid on the floor in tribute to the '64 that was in Pick-Your-Part that offered up some of its internal workings so that mine could live again. Respekt! PS, if ...
