Well, I finally went ahead with the install yesterday - - not quite as simple as I had expected, but not too bad. Man, that adhesive sure is a pain in the neck, though! I've had enough mineral spirits to last me a lifetime now! :) Everything should be set by this evening and I'll start with the Arms...

VCT Questions

I've recently started a few small restoration projects in my 1953 Dallas MCM and have finally found the time to tackle my horrible kitchen floors. Currently, I'm having to look at some dreary 1970s linoleum that is about as horrible and inappropriate as can be in the home. Luckily, I found a listing...

Sounds great, Futura Girl! There are quite a few areas of town that feature some outstanding MCM architecture. There is the "Disney Streets" area that features quite a few custom MCMs, the Lakewood (where I live) area is also full of MCMs as well. The entire White Rock Lake area, as a matt...

Thanks so much!

I appreciate the tip regarding removing the ceiling paint BEFORE painting the beams... that probably just saved me a lot of agony! :)

These Cliff May homes are located in Case Linda, which is located in east/northeast Dallas. Right next to Harry Stone park. Most are located on Andrea Ln and Milmar. I thought so. My wife and I went to see the house on Andrea Ln. that was up for "auction" a few months ago. That particular...

Thanks for all of your suggestions! The house has had two additions since it was built in 1953. So, what was originally a 1500 square foot house in now almost 2500. Fortunately, most of the additions were done with the original style in mind. In speaking with our neighbors, who have lived across the...

So, based on the pictures I've posted, are there any things about the house that stand out as needing to be immediately improved? I believe that much of the house is close to original, but can't help but think that the windows have been drastically altered over the years. Any help or advice is much ...

Congrats on the find! I know from personal experience just how rewarding it is to have some insight into the history of your own home. One of the great things about living in a real MCM is that it is the work of a real architect who had a vision - - not just some cookie-cutter box that was thrown up...

One thing you might consider doing, is going down to the City of Dallas permits building. Their archives in the basement will have a microfiche record of every permit ever issued on your house, including the original building permit. That particular form will have the name of the architect on it. Th...

Unfortunately, your link isn't working. I just purchased a MCM in the lakewood area of Dallas and have done quite a bit of research on the local architects that practiced this style.

Can you post a direct link to the pic?
