New Balance has opened in the Santa Monica location, and I stopped in yesterday. A construction worker had told me they were going to uncover the stained glass, but it now has a translucent scrim over it. An employee told me there were problems with the morning sun, so they went with this compromise...

That second-floor shot is a beauty! They have changed their policies since I was in there; I even asked if the security guard could take the photo to ensure their secrets (the Nichols Diversionary Tactic), but was told "No."
Is the pamphlet nice?

Windy's started life as Jomar Car Wash, 939 W Florence Ave, LA, one of the only car washes I've seen that has been adaptively reused. The end of the wash bay looked like they were either using it for maintenance or storage. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj262/Gnomus_photos/Googie%20-%20Car%20Wa...

"It would appear that 7051 Hollywood is now the offices of L. Ron Hubbard's Galaxy Press. The (original) building here definitely predates Mr. Sheets' era, so let's say it probably does not contain any of his artwork. Unless someone wants to pay a visit to the Scientologists just to make sure.&...

I went through that 1998 article about the WAMU acquisition of HSL and pulled out the LA county locations. The numbers in the article are wrong. They list 40 locations of WAMU and HSL banks that were closed to consolidate; 20 of which were HSL. All told, it documents 42 HSL locations, many of which ...
