Traveltalks, 1935 -- at 3:48 features lovely shots of the Brown Derby, Mother Goose Pantry and a windmill that might be a Van de Kamp's (but it's BLUE -- ?).

14070 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks. This location is now Maxsons Drugs. There is no artwork in front, out back, or inside the building. The only thing that suggests that this was once a HSL is that band around the top -- I think it was probably once painted gold. Photo taken 2-8-10. http://i274.photob...

9111 Corbin Ave, Northridge. I've seen a 1986 date for this location. No art inside or out back; just these Susan Hertel murals on the front. Inglewood - Academy & Fox Theater Tours - Feb 20

The Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation's "All About" series returns in 2010. The state of the Fox Inglewood precludes using it as a meeting place, BUT -- On Feb 20, we will be meeting at the nearby Academy Theater. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj262/Gnomus_photos/Theaters%20-%20...

I would definitely be interested to hear about other Donut Hole locations and if they all featured the huge donut entrances and exits. I believe in "California Crazy" it says that there were five of them; I have a note (forget the source) that one was built in Covina in 1963.

I stopped by the Highland Park branch; there's nothing inside the building, just the two murals that Nathan shot. Went back to First Bank in Beverly Hills. There are two stained glass windows in back (both very dark and ominous), a mural inside that looks like tree branches, and some concrete window...

660 S Figueroa St, which replaced a single story building with the address of 654 S Figueroa St. This is now HSBC Bank. I was only able to see one mural inside (I'd read that there were two) -- it looked distorted, like the artist was on acid. It definitely didn't look like a Sheets or Hertel mural....

I also visited the Anaheim building at 101 S Harbor Blvd, and confirmed that it is a twin of the Santa Monica location, down to that V shaped wall jutting out of the back that blocks the view of the stained glass. Minor differences involve the placement of doors, and in Santa Monica, they've screene...
