The P&K Living Conditioned homes used a simple bathroom lighting fixture that incorporated a half tube of perforated metal. Sorry I didn't take pictures, but imagine a 5" diameter tube of perforated metal sliced down the middle.

Custom laminate

Did anybody know about this: http://www.wilsonartcontract.com/custom/ ?? Apparently you can work with Wilsonart to come up with a laminate based on artwork you submit (for a price of course). Think of the possibilities though....one could possibly submit an obsolete laminate pattern that may be in t...

Mid-century apartments

A possible change in living arrangements may require that I relocate from my current Los Feliz apartment to elsewhere. Can anyone recommend some nice, smallish (under 15 units) mid-century buildings? Because we are saving for a house and don't want to spend a lot our upper limit is $1,600/mo for a 2...

Good read. Amazing that an organization with such noble intentions could be reduced to ripping off the very designers that helped establish it's identity. It would've been nice to see a small in-house design team develop some less pricey original pieces to sell along side the high-dollar showroom dr...

I don't hate it but it does give me a headache when I look at it, so it wouldn't work for me. The other thing that bothers me about bamboo I've experienced is the sound it makes when you walk on it while wearing "proper" adult shoes, like it's made of hard thick plastic. Also, I do love VA...

At this point I'm simply trying to self-educate myself. My curiosity was sparked by a recent visit to the Neutra VDL house, which has an LV lighting setup. Though I more or less understand the purpose of LV systems I know hardly anything about how they work, so the questions began. Further research ...

The ability to modernize and simultaneously keep the original hardware is really cool. Who would've thought there would be a group dedicated to these old LV systems, I will definitely do some more digging.

Low voltage lighting systems

What is the deal with the low voltage lighting systems that were installed in some MCM-era homes? Haven't been able to find too much info on them but this is what I've been able to gather: 1) they offer remote operating of multiple lighting circuits. 2) the various switch panels throughout the house...

Very nice home_boy! If you were inclined to do so I'd bet you could sell pre-fab kits. You may already know this but usually it's the rafters that get notched to create a flat mating surface between them and the beams.

It's part of a good-sized development in West Covina, square footage is comparable to the Cliff May Ranchos in Lakewood (only with smaller garages and bigger lots).
