Exterior lighting sources?

I can't imagine this hasn't been discussed here before, but can anyone point me to a good place for exterior fixtures? My own home is a typical 1950-era Levittown-style thing, which means basic/traditional - but that's no excuse for the existing coach lamp post fixture complete with little hitchin' ...

I know where I've seen that place - they used it in the second season of 'Crime Story' (ca 1986) as the Major Crimes Unit makeshift h.q. in Vegas. Interior shots (unsure if they were location or soundstage) showed walls busted out to make larger rooms to work in. Great show. Sorry to see it gone - d...

Some resourceful friends live a rustic life in the N. Carolina mountains - they made up a hot tub from a military surplus shipping canister set over an open fire. Works nicely but it's hard not to feel like Bugs Bunny in the thing.

Nice photos there! I'd been to the Rosenbaum house a few years back myself and it was a very nice casual tour - folks had reasonably free run of the place, and they even let me use my tripod inside. A few years earlier I had been by, but it was while the house was in the throes of restoration. It lo...

I managed to find a copy of the Sunset 'Carports' through Populuxe Books - it's given me enough inspiration to come up with a cool design. I'm going to try for a flat roof...I don't have to worry about snow accumulation, but I'll have to be diligent about cleaning off tree debris. Now, about getting...

Re: Burt Bachrach

I'm partial to Burt Bachrach , though his music is "perhaps" a little TOO obvious/overplayed, or whatever I'm trying to say. (Like saying Elvis represents the '50's and The Beatles represent the '60's in the rock scene.) Hey-nothing wrong with 'Walk On By' or 'Alfie'. I lllllike 'em, dad-...

This one should be great, but it's not. http://roadsideamerica.com/images/hotelfinder.gif http://roadsideamerica.com/hotels_motels/country/us.html Boy, is it ever not. I checked out Cave City, Kentucky on the site and it's all chains - and I know there's some cool indies there. I stayed at the Star...

"Vacancy" movie bad for motels

Hey, I've been in worse motels - this movie isn't gonna stop me. Seriously, I've stayed in places that would creep out Charles Bukowski. I've been using motelguide.com to seek out Mom & Pop motels, but it's simply a list of addresses and phone numbers, and it's been a real crapshoot. Anyone know...

Do you have a favorite "MCM mood" music?

I do like Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, mind you, but the previous incarnation, Brasil '65, is the ultimate stuff. Very elegant, spare, straight-ahead acoustic bossa nova featuring some excellent jazzy winds from Bud Shank. It's available on cd, but minus the cool cover art of the original Capitol lp.

Mrs. Miller is OK, but I'm a total fan of the froggy-voiced stylings of Leona Anderson - I'd love to get a copy of her 'Music to Suffer By' lp.

Carport plans? (New poster)

I've been reading this board for ages; thought I'd join in. I live in the orbit of Atlanta, GA in a 1950-era Levittown-style neighborhood - mine's a small but comfortable place I've been modifying in stages. I could really use a one-car carport - limited space dictates not much more than a roof over...
