what to do in NYC?

Hi all, I'm going to visit NYC this weekend. My lovely wife is working there on a show. If you in "the know" had a couple of afternoons to spend in that city, what would you do modern-wise? It's been years since I've been. I'm penciling in the Guggenheim, and I think I'll try and fit in a mai-tai at...

On the subject of landscaping, the Theodore Payne Foundation in Sunland, has excellent plants, and can refer you to landscaping architects. It's a non-profit nursery promoting native plants. Their website is http://www.theodorepayne.org/ An architect/designer who just had a seminar at the foundation...

And if you want to protect the finish from further staining, you can use car wax. Also, if you have problems with plastic, there is a product called Plexus that cleans and protects plastic. It's anti-static too.

And the cellar and loft hidden doors? I wish I had the cables for my digital camera. My wife left on a buisness trip and took all the cables. DratZ!! Also, there was a certain MBZ with the personalized plate "Megadiva" that I parked my orange SL near. Was that our very own modernist celeb, M-M? Kev

Hey Michael, Totally off topic to modern living... That's an old urban legend about the coriolis effect. It does not work. In fact, you can make the water swirl any direction you want by moving your hand in the water as soon as you pull the plug. http://www.snopes.com/science/coriolis.htm But hey, w...

I loved the tour! It's all a blur here a day later, but there were some incredible houses. I loved the Boyd Georgie house, and the Case Study #20. What the current owners are doing to the Case Study house is commendible. They are sinking hundreds of thousands into the restoration, and are staying ve...

Wow Texasdago! Thanks for the link of the MOFA!!

I grew up in the Montrose area and used to walk to the MOFA, the De Menil and many of the other great museums in the neighborhood. You sure brought back some good memories of H-town.

Hi, My place is on El Paso between Division and Toland. MM and Otis are right about linoleum, being a little more warm to the touch, and it's easier to get the smaller size, but at $3 a square foot installed, plus a little more durability, I couldn't resist VCT. There are some VCT's out there that l...

West Elm opinions sought

Hi Modsters and Modmavens, I was curious as to if any of youse have had occasion to buy anything from West Elm. http://ww2.westelm.com/index.cfm They are sort of a cross between Modernica and Ikea (if such a beast exists) and their prices are fantastic. However, one never can truly know when looking...

flooring recommendations

Hi all, I just wanted to recommend a couple of Los Angeles sources for flooring. I just had Homero Hardwood Floors refinish my hardwood floors. They did excellent work, and their rates were on the mid range scale. They used a polyurethane semi gloss topcoat that is amazingly tough and resilient. The...

The car museum at the Imperial Palace is a must see for me. But then again, I'm a gearhead.

Lot's of cool vehicles there. Some designed by Raymond Lowey. That's pretty mod, I'd say.

We've got Guzzis and Ducatis, as well as dual sport bikes. I have an MZ motard bike.

I used to be into older stuff, but since I'm going to graduate school, I sold all that stuff off and got all newer, more reliable stuff. My oldest bike right now is a 1980 Guzzi LeMans.
