I was shopping for a MCM home within an hour of NYC last year (I ended up in Connecticut) but I found the pickings slim in NJ. I did find one great Milton Kline (sp?) home in NJ, but it needed TONS of work. It hadn't been remodeled at all since it was built in the '50s. The cork floors were crumblin...

Yes, it's just a sub-floor. I'll try it in a small area first. Thanks.

Seems like great stuff. The website says it's not recommended for wood. Has anyone used it to remove mastic from a wood floor?

Eames fiberglass shell chairs

Anyone have any tips on how to clean and polish Eames fiberglass shell chairs?

I'm sorry if this has already been addressed somewhere but I can't figure out how to search topics.

Thanks,
Mark

Help me restore my Platner Lounge Chair! The Platner Lounge chair is important, and the foam inside has gotten hard over the years. I'm happy to share the importance of this chair with anyone who donates $25 for its restoration. In fact, those who donate will be listed in a "publication" a...

Help with table ideas for Bertoia side chairs

Thinking about Bertoia side chairs in white for my back deck, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good table. The Knoll paperclip table only comes in black and chrome. I'm in Connecticut and the back deck where the table will be is uncovered. Any ideas? The cheaper the better as the chairs w...

Redneck--

You rule. Your vanity is perfect: basic, not too flashy, classically modern.

I'm going to copy you, except I'll do a tile counter, I think.

I think what was odd about the post initially is that she (or he) never stated what the home was being saved from. I think that's why people responded the way they did. The home is beautiful and looks as if it was beautifully restored. I hope some lucky buyer snags it quickly. I'm wondering, who the...

Huh? Seems like fear isn't the best way to sell a house. What's the threat to the home? How would a buyer be "saving" it?

just back from New Canaan

Just checked out the open house on the Taylor Gates house-- pretty impressive, though sadly surrounded by tasteless new mansions. A great house for families with kids, a great layout... Also went over to look for the "Ice Storm" house and I didn't find it. I drove down Chichester Rd. and s...

I was wondering if it's legal to photograph houses from public streets? I seem to remember someone somewhere on this message board addressed this issue.

House used in "The Ice Storm"

Does anyone know what house was used in "The Ice Storm"? I know it was supposed to be in New Canaan, so imagine it's one of the Harvard Five's, but I can't find it in any books.

Thanks,
Mark

I just bought four Modernica bases (Eiffel) from modlivin.com. Excellent quality with nuts and bolts included. They fit nicely onto the vintage shells I bought on eBay. No shipping charges! Call them--not sure the bases only are listed on the website.

I have a library of books about MCMism, architecture, etc., but there are very few photos of untouched MCM bathrooms. I've also spent a few hours on Google with not much luck. The house is dark red, light blue, dark gray, and light gray. On the side, there are a few yellow panels, too.

I'll try to post a few more photos on Flickr.

Help with exterior paint colors for MCM home in CT

We're planning a major exterior paint job for this spring. We're not sure if we should should stick with the current colors, or what. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The house was built in 1960. We met with the architect (who's now in his 80s) and he can't recall what the original color scheme...

Help with flat roof

Well, it happened: the roof leaked. The problem seems to be where the rubber seams meet--some of the sealer has peeled away. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good rubber seam sealer for a flat roof that tends to pool? We're in Connecticut and we just got tons of rain after tons of snow. Thanks...
