BTW, there is a great Pugsley (the architect, not the Addams family son) in Montecito Heights that is not on the MLS. Right now it's for sale by owner and is a very cool, 2 bedroom 1 bath home on a large, downslope lot with great views and a short drive to downtown L.A. There are front and rear deck...

Well, there are lots of areas that qualify as "close to downtown" and in the last couple of months many of them have (thankfully) become affordable again. The L.A. real estate market is definitely slowing/correcting. From further west (like Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks) eastward to Pasadena; from...

Kendyl, Oops, for a second I imagined you were the buyer. (Thx, Portland Modern :) ) Still, truly a great place. Craig & I don't have any info on the architect either. This home is very unique and nothing like any other home in the area, so tract searching won't help you. The best thing you can do i...

[quote="Joe"]that's often the case. sellers are often talked into painting interiors all white by ignorant realtors (no offense, mtwall).

And no offense taken, 'cuz I don't do that.

1962 Sunset Magazine Home Remodel

I was looking at a Sunset Mag from 1962 and saw some interesting pics of a very non-descript, square box footprint, post-war tract house that had been transformed into a very cool looking MCM home with carport, privacy wall and streamlined interior spaces. I'm curious if anyone out there lives in on...

In the last week or so, we saw the house of the original post and it is looking fantastic! Very cool renovations and great, unique choices throughout. Fickett's designs were so open, streamlined and functional. They make as much sense today as when they were first conceived and built. Hopefully othe...

Broaden it to include other MCM architects and builders, both well known and more obscure and focus on affordability and style. Publishers will be lining up on their knees, begging... Count me in!

I probably would've bought the HHH, motorcycle, oily kitchen mess and all. Whenever I look at a house I imagine it stripped of everything awful and put back together in appropriate style. There's so much out there that's totally restorable and GREAT (not to mention cheap by L.A. price standards). I'...

Almost daily in L.A. we come across great homes that people have done very bad things to. It's hard sometimes to keep our cool (and not, for example, attack the owners with pointy sticks). Hopefully, over time, more people will take on the hard work of removing the awful remodelling jobs and restore...

Sherman Oaks, CA -1960's William Sutherland Beckett for Sale

It is a 3 bedroom 2 bath home in around 1800 sq. ft. that has not been remodeled by the original(?) owners. It does need substantial repairs and restoration. This house is surrounded by many significant mid-century homes in a wonderful location in the hills with easy westside access and is priced WE...

What they did to that Eichler is criminal conduct in my book, not to mention the worst affront to the senses. Neighborhood groups (of owners, that is) can and should form new homeowner associations and adopt bylaws that prohibit the ongoing obliteration of style and sensibility in all cool enclaves....

To be more precise, the home is not located in the area that has come to be known (through an LA times article) as Sherman Park, although the owner at the time of construction is listed as "Sherman Park Development Co."

While there are some unfortunate remodels in the neighborhood, most of the homes are still restorable. We're looki...
