nice to see the dark honey-colored wood with the white countertop. we're also planning ikea bases with custom luan doors to coordinate with the paneling on an adjacent wall. we were planning absolute black granite in a honed (matte) finish, but the white is indeed quite nice. thanks for sharing + ke...

"Did you try over at the eichler network?"...

yes, but it's not as robust as LLbb and the rules prohibit the posting of good/services like the OSH tip below (which i'll visit this weekend... thanks for that tip).

re: ikea cabinetry our plan is to use pre-made bases and cover with custom-made doors... i plan to use ikea bases as i can't find other modular cabinetry made of solid wood (and most looks like a country-cottage if it is). ikea bases seem to be on-par with others of the same construction (it is part...

"Now how can I approach my immediate neighbor about changing his super bright coach fixtures that he seems to need on every night?" best step is a simple knock on the door, a "hello", pleasant question and perhaps an offer to help fix (perhaps with a low-wattage CFL in-hand, a ti...

we're in an eichler in concord and we'll be installing the LG art-cool system with one compressor and 3 heads for a total of 36K btus of cooling (12K each head). one head in the multipurpose room, one in the living/dining room and one in the master bedroom (the 12K might be overkill in the MBR, but ...

nice find. my dad bought an MCM-esque (not quite as mod as yours, but still within the lines) in high point for $125K on a 1/2 acre lot. from a bay-area perspective, that was a steal, but aesthetically, yours wins the race. kudos.

a similar question... we just installed black VCT today/yesterday (will post update to the blog shortly) through the whole house (save the bathrooms) @ about 1800sf. best $4K we ever spent... the installers were true pros. amazing what a day can make. we were going to call in a janitorial service to...

what you've pointed out that you like (or might notice on install: sound absorbing, resilience, etc.) are, of course, natural properties of cork itself and comparing it to other materials, is like comparing apples to oranges to some extent (but natural when shopping for flooring). the core of the bo...

for good, bad or otherwise, we've found though a simple look-see that more of the drywall needs patching, etc. than anticipated, so it's likely that we'll be replacing at least the drywall rather than trying to match the ugly texture that came stock with the house. we also plan on doing some data wi...

benefits of replacing drywall and insulation?

we're going through a pretty extensive reno, but wondering where to stop. our house currently has both drywall and kraft-faced insulation -- albeit both 40 years old. wondering -- other than the shiny-newness of it -- if there's a reason to rip out all of the drywall and insulation simply to replace...

electrician for eichler in concord, calif.

hi folks... first post. found my way here from a board that is a bit tighter on FWDing service recommendations... anyway... i'm hoping to find an electrician in the concord area. doesn't need to be an eichler-specific electrician, just someone you might've had good experiences with who's reasonable ...
