is cork dimensionally stable? just curious... we've decided on VCT in the guest bedroom, 2 shades of grey to go with white painted walls, white trim, furnished in cheap ikea Lack tables and dresser in birch finish. nothing flashy, but fun and modern I think. the other room which was a candidate for ...

I'm definitely voting for Hardie products. they make planks to mimic what you have as well as sheets and trim pieces to replicate a board-and-batten look. They have slightly different formulas for different climates, so you will be certain to get something that works. and as for maintenance, paint i...

thanks for all the advice! our installer also recommended not using the particular bamboo that we had chosen nor any sort of glued product.

i've found some engineered bamboo that will float at a decent price. we're also considering both VCT and cork per your suggestions.

bamboo flooring question

all, considering a glue-down bamboo product from lumber liquidators, super cheap and gets nothing but 5 star reviews on their site. another flooring vendor mentioned that they don't even carry this stuff because it buckles, warps, ect after a few years. is that bullcrap? anyone in the know about thi...

I visited my local window store yesterday. they had displays for both fleetwood and milgard amongst others. Dan, I'm with ya on the fleetwoods. they are gorgeous windows but have a very heavy look about them. they look fantastic on the super-huge modern homes displayed on their website, but in my mo...

Aluminum Window retrofits!

anyone have a brand recommendation for retrofit aluminum windows? yeah, I know aluminum isn't as environmentally friendly as other types, but its what was in our Palmer & Krisel originally and we want to keep the same look. We've tried Milgard but been super frustrated with their recommended ins...

better than the shops in town I hope! We were in town for one of the movie premiers, didn't take in the furniture show but browsed some shops. Yes, they have some of the top-notch, cherry condition examples of furniture but we weren't able to locate anything approaching affordable! We left town with...

Re: Where's

uhhh, if its like ours, it is in the kitchen. The majority--but definitely not all--P&K tract homes seem to have the laundry in the kitchen... laundry in the kitchen is common in many modern planned homes of that era. it was all about making the kitchen the command center of the home. most Clif...

is it wood? someone must have come back later and installed it, all of the Paradise Palms homes were built with carpet in most of the rooms with a bit of VAT/VCT in the entryways and kitchens. if its actually wood flooring, congrats! as a general vote without seeing the specifics of your place, I li...

Jack was never able to get the sales brochure. the director of the movie, Jake Gorst or something like that had it in his possession and promised to email jack an electronic copy. never happened... I will be at the premier on Sunday, I'll try to bug both Jake and Jack about it if the occasion arises.

yeah, our uber dry climate allows for hanging laundry at night and by morning its dry, but its also wrinkly and bit crunchy. so a nice steamy iron fixes that. love ironing, hate having the board in the way and/or putting it up and down all the time.

thanks for the suggestions!

Hide the ironing board?

anyone know of a decent looking way to hide the ironing board? I've seen a few wall-mounted solutions with a flip down board but either the price is crazy, they look like crap, or most often both... I'm not handy enough to build anything like this I don't think, so something to buy would be awesome....
