paneling color/stain question

we are experimenting with paneling in the living room. I used birch and luan with amber shellac and it looks very "country". I tried some reddish stain and it doesnt look good. Is there a specific color family or color that people are using in mcm houses to get the clean look? I realize co...

oh ya, I am still toying with the idea of a new 20 ft cargo container...the back of my house is very flat, and this would kinda follow the lines of the house...but I have never seen one that looks "nice", seems they always look like just a metal box. I know you can do alot of things with t...

anyone have a mcm storage building

Cant find any old posts on storage buildings. I am planning a 10x16 or so storage building for the back. I have the skills but little imagination. Any pics of cool storage buildings? At this point I am stuck with the idea of a sloped roof, then flat room carport beside it. I am doing this on the che...

cut one of the those soffit boards, you dont have to cut the roof, if the roof is leaking you will see the water path. That hot tar roofing system isnt that great. If there are any roofers here they will echo this. Flat roofs now are done with a commercial rubberish membrane. It will last forever ( ...

looking at the pics again, I think your roof is leaking. The leak is building up at the unpainted cedar area and doesnt drain fast enough. It may be building up and continue to leak after the rain...either way, just open it up and look...and make sure and post pics. I bet you could have pulled some ...

ok. here is my response based on MY personal taste. To not be dated, dont use whats popular..I know that sounds dumb but true. You are not going to change the kitchen into what you want with tile, so go with something that pulls from what you already have. I think black or white subway would look co...

have you gone in the attic to see if you have access to them? That way you could just cut and splice in new pieces.

luan plywood install on the wall

For people that have installed 1/4 luan on the walls, please tell me your technique. I imagine directly over sheetrock, it will not look straight? I was thinking of 3, 1x4`s shimmed to be perfect. One on top, bottom and middle. Then either glued or nailed with small staple gun. Opinions welcomed

I have used some of that stuff before..most of that is just plastic resin based. I have used fiberglass resin with great results. Just use a little extra hardner and paint it on. The rotten wood will absorb the resin and be harder than new...buuut there is nothing like just replacing it. Iwould imag...

that actually seems like quite a bit, but it also depends on how far they are having to cut back to find good wood and materials. The roofing company is actually prob. farming the repair out to someone else then adding their markup. Ask for a written quote with exact scope of work to be done, then t...

I bought a box of the connectors (10 for 35$), but really dont want to mess with the low voltage wiring and switches. I think I may just jump into it and rewire the bathroom.

bathroom remodel/aluminum wiring

I have read alot of negative things about aluminum wiring, but just how bad is it? We gutted the bath and the whole room is wired with it...it looks like 10 guage. I know about pigtailing and using copper, but really, how bad can it be? I see no signs of heat problems or anything else unusual. Anyon...

My wife and I recently bought this project house. We are currently at WTF were we thinking stage. It gets a little overwhelming sometimes, at kinda at a loss with what to do with some portions of the house. The original house was built in 35, then the remodel in 68. The front portion is traditional ...
