What kind of tile floor do I have?

We just bought a 1954 MCM home. Here are some pictures of the downstairs tile. It's 9 inch. Is it VCT? I'm not sure if it's original or not. I thought they might be asbestos tiles, but an architect friend told me that since you can bend them and you don't see fibers he thought they weren't asbestos ...

Thanks for the recommendation. I can't seem to find their website. I did find several sites that sell McKay products.

I did find the Ohio Table Pad Company: http://www.otpc.com/

They seem to be competitors to McKay. If anyone can recommend somewhere to order McKay, I'd appreciate it.

Where to order table pads?

I want to order a thin protective pad for a round table I have. It's going to be used as a game table. I'm looking for something like this: http://www.guardian-tablepad.com/tablepads.html I just found this site using a google search, so I don't know anything about them. Does anyone have any experien...

I agree, I really like the Flair. I wish my space was right for it.

Anyone know the model of the white one that I posted above?

Unfortunately it appears that the 27 means it's 27 inches wide, and my space is 36. Too bad - I really like how it looks. Here's one that is 36 inches, so I'm going to look for one of these:

What to see in Portland?

Going to visit my cousin for a day in Portland. We're planning to check out the shops on Hawthorne like Hawthorne vintage. Any other mid-century sights to see? Remember we only have a day, really less. Looking for a cool place to eat, furniture shops and maybe some neighborhoods to check out.

I wanted to mention that the one in my original post appears to have the controls installed remotely in the wall. Cool.

Anyone recognize this GE range?

I like this range. Apparently it's made by GE. Does anybody know anything else about it, such as a model name? I'd like to find one. Any info would help.

"First sold in 1967, Corian was originally developed as a material to replace human bones, and it is still produced in the first color: "Bone"."

We had a very good installer and the laminate we used was nevamar, which i supposed to be more durable than formica. Our countertops are nowhere near completely destroyed - there are small chips here and there at the edges where it's been bumped, and surface scratches that are visible on close inspe...

What countertop product looks like formica/laminate?

My wife and I are likely moving soon, and we're starting to think of what we want to do with the counters in the new house. In our current house, we put in formica countertops. I love the look of them, but they haven't worn well. The usual issues: chipping at the corners, scratching, etc. Is there a...

Slim, I think I agree with you. It sounds like you have a good understanding of using color! I just started reading a book called "How to Decorate and Light Your Home" (written in the 50s, got it from a garage sale), so this is on my mind right now. I don't claim to know much about it yet,...

Slim, love your pictures. Is it just me, or does the piano look terrible in that first one? Also like the asbestos tile ad. Easy to clean! Causes cancer! I really do like how they look, though. Very cool Slim! I can see why you'd need to use some toxic stuff on that bad boy. Turned out great! Here's an update on my projects. We ended up getting a new set for our living room and that original coffee table didn't match, so I sold it on craigslist. I never put the bedroom set in my son's room...

How would a horizontal fence look? Does this create the problem of lines fighting with each other or is it okay since it's the fence and not on the house? What could be done with the slump block on the chimneys? Stucco it smooth? http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/6012/househorizontalfence.jpg

Showed it to the wife and she asked for some slight color changes, to get rid of the battens and to add the screen wall back.
