Bench and Hot Tub Plan

I seemed to have missed the original post. Very nice solution for a small garden area and an elegant urban bench. What type of tree was planted?

I only make non-smoking work, if it's smoking it's too hot to handle in California.

Unfortunately, there is very little left of the original house and details; an unfortunate remodel.

George Nelson Pomona Tile

I was at a house this past weekend and I saw another application of the George Nelson Laurel tile. The house was designed by Boyd Georgi in 1949.

Nesbitt Garden

The Neutra landscape design was far more sensitive to the site than this current landscaping job.

When water usage is such a concern, is tropical landscaping responsible?

I saw the house the last time it was on the market and there was shelving and posts between the kitchen and dining area. These have since been removed.

Reducing Heat Gain

Consider Trees on the West facing side of the house. This will help reduce solar gain in the late afternoon when it's hottest. Window shades that reduce direct sunlight from the interior of the house will also help reduce the solar gain. Allowing windows to open to the prevailing breezes can help to...

Warren Callister 1917-2008

"I use the new techniques within the traditional sense, but my concern is not with recreating the old. Rather I seek to create our own unique eclecticism...a story of dreams to be somehow realized, a total experience of the power and beauty of lived-in forms."

We really should have Hillmer's Ludekens house in the favorite buildings thread. I don't think anyone would find it under "Jack Hillmer Dead" Of all his houses, this one was probably the most published and it is a great tribute to his art. Here are some more images from the House Beautiful...

How disappointing! One would have thought the new owners would be delighted to find out more about the house from one of the original architects. They probably have other plans for the house. I wouldn't tell Olaf. Unfortunately, the black and white photos do little justice to H.H. Harris' color sche...
