Yes, the front door is that dark recess next to the garage. The house is still being restored and the original landscaping restored.

Feng Shui

Having studied Chinese culture and Feng Shui, I find that it fits nicely into the Chinese idea of the cosmos. Classically, it was a way to standardize siting and design of buildings and towns in relation to the environment. In the west, we have had a long history of thought in this area of design th...

Budget Minded MCM

I have to agree with Joe. The few MCM listings that appear on this sight are usually the cream of the crop. In my area, you will only see the few Lautner's or Neutra's gaining any attention on this site. The rest of the stock of MCM's on the market go quietly without as much as a whisper. Relatively...

Japanese Gardening in Southern California

The basic theories of a Japanese garden are adaptable to any climate. The climate in Southern California is ideal for a karesansui (dry mountain and water) garden. With judicious use of plants and rocks you can have a beautiful native/Mediterranean drought tolerant garden in a Japanese style. After ...

Remodeled Eichler

Education. Isn't that the key. I was brought up in New England. My first domestic cultural architectural experiences were school field trips to old colonial houses. I lived in a neo-colonial housing development. My uncle lived in a real colonial house. If I lived there today, I would probably be liv...

Cultural-Historical Designation of Modern Homes

Many modern homes, such as mine, in the grand scheme of Los Angeles are probably considered pretty unremarkable. My house wasn't designed by a famous architect or builder. Nobody of any note lived or any event of any cultural importance occurred here. I think it is a classic post and beam house with...

Tujunga/Sunland

Tujunga/Sunland is not immune to insensitive development. This is part of Los Angeles after all. The small cottages and hunting cabins are fast disappearing. Near my last residence in Sunland a small adobe house was replaced by three stucco houses built to the setbacks. Two blocks away, another smal...

Apperson Street/Haines Canyon Modern Tract

Hi! I'm your neighbor on Haines Canyon on the other side of Foothill Blvd. in the Crystal View Tract. I live in a eighteen house tract of post and beam house along Haines Canyon. These houses were built around 1955 by Victor W Sease who lived at 10223 Haines Canyon. He evidently lived about a block ...

Reseda White House and Barn

I just heard about the demise of the house yesterday. It had been allowed to deteriorate and looked abandoned. Although, I often saw lights in the windows and a vehicle was often parked on the property. The last remains of the rural agricultural character of the San Fernando valley are disappearing ...
