Re: Wexlers in PS

Two of the seven Wexlers in that colony have gone on the market in the last six months. They were the fully restored, too. I looked into an unrestored Wexler (the one at the corner) that went up for sale a few years ago. After some research I discovered that there is a massive affordable housing pr...

Re: Wexler's Steel home for sale?

[quote="texasdago"]Based on the picture on this listing on Realtor.com, it looks like one of Donald Wexler's steel homes may be for sale... am I right or wrong? It could also be one of those condos built by Bob Alexander on the south side of town... I can't remember what they're called but...

Skip, I felt the same way about the Edris House that is until I saw the Burgess House. Going in, my expecations were very low for the Alexander/Elvis House because of the Elvis connection and having done a drive by previously. Seeing it up close therefore, actually exceeded my expectations. I total...

Is there anything, anything at all left of the Pacific Ocean Park out in Santa Monica? Can someone give me directions to the Marine Land somewhere out in Palos Verdes? Hear it's supposed to be a pretty nifty ruins park now. i will try to find a series of slides i took of the ruins of POP around 197...

courtyard apts of west hollywood

i would nominate the streets between sunset and fountain, from fairfax to la cienega. here you find a great selection of spanish revival courtyard apts. but also many examples of sometimes lavish midcentury apt. buildings. many were designed by edward fickett.

the library slated for demolition and possibly the auditorium (also doomed)in west hollywood park were designed by edward fickett.
apparently prominent but not "celebrated," i've had a hard time finding information about him or his buildings. any suggestions?

Ritts building

the former Ritts Bldg on Santa Monica Blvd at Holloway (next door to Barney's Beanery) was indeed the family business of Herb Ritts. Until a few years ago the company still operated - from what I know, they sold lucite furniture and objects. i have often thought it'd make a great retro-polynesian-ti...
