Wasn't this designed by Charles Luckman? I would expect that all those exotic materials will end up in a dumpster. But then, what does Beverly Hills care about it's history? A city that has commissioned numerous Historic Site Surveys, even though it does not have a Preservation Ordinance. Municipal...

Sounds fishy

to me ... the neighborhood is responsible for moving the hot dog stand?
The benevolent developer wanted to incorporate it? Somehow I think there's more to the story. At least it's protected and they can't just demolish it.

well if there's still a stigma about living in the north end of palm springs, someone had better tell the developers who are building thousands of houses in the north end - including high-end luxury types.

Unfortunately

....it appears the Huddles restoration is kaput. On last week's Planning Commission agenda was a new plan for the property, with a new developer - proposing over 100 residential units + 15,000 sq ft of commercial along (south) Palm Canyon and east along Mesquite. Jim Cioffi was the designer on the H...

Re: Midcentury Renovation: kitchen cabinet suggestions?

I am preparing to do a modest renovation of an Alexander midcentury home in Palm Springs. I've been looking around for interesting kitchen cabinets that would be appropriate for such a house I'm really looking for something very basic and I'm intrigued with the idea of doing them in color (as oppos...

50s Furniture

I have furnished my 1959 Alexander almost entirely with Russel Wright ModernMates, sold by Macys beginning in 1949. It is still very affordable, though hard to find here on the West Coast. And it is the perfect size, scale and clean-lined style for a modern home of this era. It also mixes well with ...

Re: Miracle Mile gets its first Television Billboard

Is the historic Miracle Mile turning into Times Square? The districts of Hollywood and Sunset Strip have OK'd large-scale television billboards for fast-paced animated advertisiments, and nowit seems that it's the Miracle Mile's turn. This distracting and misplaced piece of flashy advertising is ne...
