yes, it's a little "white" in side, but considering the condition of the house when they started, it's pretty good. I would have opted for the natural ceiling and natural wood slab interior doors. . i agree about the interior doors. the frosted glass look just doesn't do it for me. of course the re...

THEY PAINTED THE WOOD CEILING WHITE --- ! --- this meiselman rehab is in the next block down from my alexander and i have been following this blog too.... as for painting wood ceilings white.....it's better than sandblasting them into a santa fe hacienda look, which is quite common. i know that the...

SkipHome -- Really? Schindler protege? Hmm, now I'm really intrigued -- I suppose the Aaron Green house could have disappeared in the years since 1965 -- of my SoCal architecture guides only this one mentions Green, and there is only the one entry. Don't MAKE me come down there. . .! Thanks for the...

Ditto -- what was the outcome? "A Guide to Architecture in Southern California" (LACMA, 1965, pp 48-9) cites the Reif house, by Aaron Green (1951) at 906 N. Kings Rd. I am hoping for a monograph on this Wrightian some day -- can anybody point me toward published work? Anyone seen this house -- I co...

Re: top ten

Well I think Christine is looking for what typical American's taste and since they seem to buying vinyl-sided condos sprawling all over the place, I'd assume they have no interest in Modern architecture. I'm not typical, 1. Fallingwater 2. British Art Gallery at Yale 3. Seagram Building 4. TWA Term...

[quote="savvy"]What do you think of it?

doesn't do much for me. from the images it looks fairly derivative, which i guess was the point. the ground floor looks like a series of garage doors with an outdoor cafe? too symmetrical and familiar.

Hello, I 'm heading to LA next month and plan to stay at the Standard in Hollywood. Is this in walking distance to good mod shopping? Other than the Rose Bowl, could I find a flea market close to there? Thanks! your hotel is actually not in hollywood but in west hollywood on the sunset strip, a few...

Re: front door

when approaching an mcm property, the front door is often a good indication of whether or not the current owner "gets it." A simple slab door painted appropriately almost always seems the best solution. Sidelights and glass should be part of the adjacent framing details, not part of the door..or co...

where do i sign up?

Chimay: I think a P&K book is possible. They definitely have a large enough portfolio to be considered. Writing the story and assembling the photography would be fun. The hard part is convincing a publisher to buy it. The problem is P&K may be considered too regional even though they have homes in ...

Re: Neutra's Kaufmann House in Palm Springs

Was in Palm Springs last weekend just driving around admiring all the beautiful modern homes when I stopped in front of a house, quite by accident, only because the landscaping was so gorgeous. When I looked at the house, it dawned on me that I was looking at the Kaufmann house from the garage. It ...

Re: Your entry

I just did a terrazzo-like tile throughout my home that I love. It comes in 1x1 tiles and is a marble aggregate...it does not look like marble, though. Columbia Square

i have heard some speculation that cbs will be abandoning columbia square at gowe and sunset, to consolidate all operations in a new building at their radford lot in studio city.
does anyone know the background of the building(s)? i know they are historically important, but architecturally?
