won't be in Houston anytime soon, but I'll be in Big D in September. I have always had the image of Houston being a dust bowl. A few years back I drove from El Paso to Dallas during the winter, it was pretty bleek. I'll need to change my view of Houston based on your pix! and they say the NW gets a...

Re: Huddle Springs Restaurant/ a rare rebuild

Don't forget the fantastic Huddle Springs Restaurant that once stood in Palm Springs. Designed by William F. Cody, F.A.I.A., it was quite spectactular. A victem of speculative demolition, it was bulldozed for a hotel/resort which was never built. And it's still a vacant lot today. You can see a sho...

went to the modernism show on last day. can't decide if i should kick myself for not buying the russel wright conant ball bedroom suite - 3 dressers, 2 nightstand, desk and kingsize headboard. i liked it better than the paul mccobb! but i couldn't figure out if it was worth $4800. otherwise the show...

I'm a big fan of Pereira's work, although I am not aware of any fan clubs devoted to the architect. I was so impressed by a visit to his library at UC San Diego that I wrote an article about it for the Jetset web site. You can read the article here: http://www.jetsetmodern.com/geisel.htm this build...

depends on what you call substantially. to me it's not low enough; it still blocks the eye from seeing into the structure. but they did cut it down, maybe to 1/2 what it was.

what was most offensive about meyers' article was his mean-spirited (and redundant) description of a dealer at a modernism show as an "effete queen with bakelite drawer handles." meyers comes off as a real snob IMHO.

that darn wall

it's too bad they didn't take the gas station back to the original vision when there was no wall around the perimeter and you could just sort of fly right into the interior. originally there was a low cement block wall with a fountain, now it's about 4 ft and is an obstacle to the viewer.
