A couple of little ideas for the den

Sorry for the silly graphics but I am stuck in NC and working with photos from the real estate listing [these aren't our furnishings]. I have had to shut down my studio so I don't really have any way to work. So I am just goofing with some ideas. Before: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XGGprLh2chw/TGIUCOA...

I agree with SGhost - I know everything thinks they want to die in their home but if it is easy to swap out with drywall it might help when it comes time to sell. I would say if your house is 85-100% authentic to the 50s I would eventually drywall as, ironically, there might be more purists out ther...

""McMansions are not the fault of the architects. I would argue McMansions are not even architecture but the lack of architecture."" I agree with this. McMansions are essentially a product of economics and not aesthetics. But that is an interesting topic on its own. My new house ...

"" And by the way it is a sad day when architecture is viewed only through the perspective of a Realtor."" Wow - I was just having a conversation with her - and for all anyone knows she studied architecture through school - Actually the person she was referencing is an architect ...

I recognize that Michelangelo is a great artist. I just don't like any of his art [as an aside I am not a fan of most Italian Renaissance work - Northern/German Renaissance is another story]. I guess I feel that way about this house. I remember asking my Realtor if in 50 years people would be gushin...

Hey we are just off Peavy, south of Gus Thomasson and a bit north of oats in the 75228 - i'll be moving fairly soon once everything closes - we are excited about the area and discovering stuff and hanging at the lake...

Thanks all - I havent done any real research into the house other than it was built in 1957 in the area of Dallas roughly known as Ferguson Heights. If anyone recognizes anything about the house or the area as to who might have made that would be cool to know. I have a feeling it was made by someone...

[quote]I find the shape unnecessary and overscaled, which plagues much of today's public and commercial architecture[quote] I remember my American Arch class in grad school. We learned that back in the olden days there were no architects per se, just professional gentlemen like Th Jefferson. Anyway ...

Hey Jerry, Thanks - very cool place. Good job. I dream of walls of windows. We found a place in Oak Cliff in Dallas that fit the bill but someone snatched it up before we were ready to buy. Our place is fairly 'traditional' as far as MCM goes but we are hoping to have some fun with it, thnx again Ch...

Materials

It seems to me that so much of architectural style is dictated by the materials - price, availability, etc. When concrete was cheap - what do you know we get Brasilia and tons of poured concrete structures. Of course what was inexpensive to use in 1957 might be expensive now and what is affordable n...

Hey all - well it isn't a totally rocking atomic MCM but it isn't MCNM [mid century not modern] either. We are looking forward to updating or backdating this baby over the next couple of years. I made a blog to chart the progress, so feel free to come and see what we are up to. We just got started s...
