I agree that there are pros and cons to both setups. Our last house (an Alexander in Palm Springs) had an open kitchen/dining/living room, and though the openness felt nice, it also was a pain to have to keep the kitchen spotless at all times. Our current place has a large kitchen that is a complete...

Re: you mean like McGarrett?

Wish I had a recommendation, but I think I know what you mean. You want a swanky MCM or M anyway that looks like McGarrett might do that iconic spin on the balcony, right???? That would be the Ilikai: http://www.ilikaihotel.com/index.html Still there although I have heard that they remodeled the in...

Modernist Hotels in Hawaii?

I did a search here but couldn't really find what I was looking for. Clearly there are a lot of tiki-themed resorts and hotels in Hawaii, but what about true MCM? I would like to go to Hawaii (any island) but would only want to stay in a modernist hotel -- either original 50s/60s/70s modern or more ...

"Cone chair by George Tanier -- $199." ? Isn't that a Verner Panton knock-off ? George Tanier was actually a U.S. importer of modern European design back in the day (similar to Stendig). I suspect that the Cone chair shown in the image was an authentic/licensed Panton piece, but the copyw...

The Lever House restaurant, whose interior was designed by Marc Newson, is actually not new -- it opened about five years ago. I finally had a chance to go there for dinner a few months ago during a quick NYC trip and thoroughly enjoyed it (both the interior and the food). Newson really did a great ...

Monkey, Thanks for the comments. The T-111 fence was existing but as you can see was too low on the neighbor side so we came up with a quick and cheap way to raise it up for privacy. It's not metal but actually plastic roofing material which was very inexpensive but did the trick. But did you make ...

New Photos of My TN House -- Joyce, Pearson & Prout

I've posted some photos of my house here in the past (including when we had the place up for sale), but the image quality wasn't that great. We also have done more work on the interior spaces since that time. Anyway, a friend of mine who is a photographer stayed with us last weekend and took a bunch...

Holy crap, is that really the same house as before?! All the work is looking really, really good. The storefront window is wonderful. Are you familiar with the work of Myron Goldfinger, an architect in NY? Your cedar siding reminds me of some of his residential projects, which are typically cedar-si...

I don't collect globes, but Santa did bring me a vintage lucite one for Christmas this past year. It looks really cool on display, and I've been enjoying looking at all of the details (it's been years since I've had a globe, so I'm relearning some of my geography...).
