Re: The Smell? The Humidity?

Houston must have some of the most affordable modern houses in the US right now. I am constantly amazed at prices so low in a large city. Indeed! At one point I seriously considered moving to Houston just because of the wealth of modern houses there at incredibly affordable prices (I work from home...

Yeah -- I thought it was with one of the high-end auction houses. . . It actually is -- the house is being auctioned by Wright in Chicago (http://www.wright20.com). Most of the major auction houses now simultaneously list their items on ebay via "Live Auctions," just for increased exposure.

I honestly think that either choice would be a great one. We have bright-orange front doors on our house, but your green option looks cool as well.

Whoever restored this house did a very nice job. I remember when the place came on the market six or seven years ago in a rather bastardized state -- carport enclosed, etc.

The black ones were produced later as you suspected, although I'm not sure what year they went into production. The version you have is still being produced by Artek (or at least it has been in recent years). Current retail is probably around $3000:

Is there a way to tell? I know its old, not new. Were these reproduced in the 70's I wonder... That's the thing, I don't know if these were ever reproduced back in the day. Without a Poulsen sticker on it, it's hard to tell whether it's an authentic original or not. The brass piece at the top does ...

That appears to be a Moon Lamp, designed by Verner Panton in 1960. Not sure if it is an original or not, but if so, it is worth a good bit of money. The design was put back into production a few years ago by Vitra (Louis Poulsen was the original manufacturer): http://www.ambientedirect.com/en/usd/de...

I had just assumed that the house had been bought by someone in the U.S., if not by a Californian as their primary residence, then at least by someone close enough to regularly enjoy the house. But hey, what do I kno...

Could it be he was the buyer last fall? Does anyone know who the buyer was? I was surprised to read somewhere this morning that the buyer was a woman from South Korea. She apparently flew to California to view the house, then headed to Chicago to bid on it at the live auction. Her name and details ...

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about 60s and 70s design in general and plastics in particular, and I have never seen that chair before. It is definitely not in any of my reference books. I would say go ahead and apply the new finish and enjoy! :)

Thanks for the compliments. We actually bought the house from the couple who had originally commissioned it from the architect. These are great lighting fixtures, but I am skeptical of them having been designed by Sarfatti. Where is this documented? I like the new metal series of chairs, tables, and loungers from West Elm. The pieces are modern-looking and priced fairly reasonably (in contrast to, say, the Richard Schultz series that I've always loved). http://www.westelm.com/media/WE/pf2/p_f237_alt_WE07B309D_SU07_070313165447_Alternate.jpg

Value really depends on print size, edition size, desirability of image, etc. I have recently seen signed Vasarely prints go for anywhere from $50 to $500. Overall your piece would probably sell better through an auction house than on ebay or to a dealer.
