Grand Central Info from IMDB & the Glendale Historical S

These buildings (all the way to Western) make up the former Grand Central Airport. If you stand on the Western bridge over the tracks and look towards downtown L.A., you can get a feel for the old footprint of the airport. The parking lot immediately below the bridge is also owned by Disney, I belie...

From the Secretary of the Interior's Standards

#9 "The new work shall be differentiated from the old..." But, of course, there's the rest of the paragraph, "and shall be compatible with the massing, size, scale, and architectural features to protect the historic integrity of the property and its environment." I don't think all is lost, though. I...

Toluca Yard

As a borderline "foamer" for what's left of L.A.'s trolley days, this is certainly something that I feel should be preserved. Would't this cause have been a lot more likely to succeed, though, if this effort had started when the lot was recently for sale (for a couple of years, I believe)? Or if som...

While I haven't seen it...

it may be the UFO that used to be parked in the minimall lot at Fountain and Vermont, behind the hospitals. Is it about 7 or 8 feet in diameter? If it's the same one, tt used to advertise a burger place in the minimall, and was sitting on a trailer, chained to the sign pole, with a rotating red ligh...

Burbank Zody's

still stands on San Fernando Road, though it is now a (Super?) KMart.

The businesses in that building were always used to taunt kids on nearby schoolyards, as Zody's became Pic-N-Save became some half-hearted sporting goods store, then KMart.

Doc's Garage

The shot near the beginning of the movie of Marty skateboarding out of Doc's 1985 garage (and latching on to a passing pickup truck) was filmed behind the Ole's (now OSH) and Burger King in Burbank on Victory.
