HPOZs

Property owners in HPOZs only get property tax reductions if they own a "contributor" to the HPOZ and they go through the process of applying for a Mills Act contract. Here's the City's site for more info: http://www.preservation.lacity.org/node/465 The deadline for 2010 is coming up at th...

I'll post the link once tickets are available.

I believe that it will leave L.A. early Saturday morning and returns Sunday evening.

Big Bear, CA - Thundercloud Lodge (1963)

A couple of weeks ago, I was in Big Bear for the first time in years and came across this place. The pool was drained and the parking lot only had a single car, but the lobby door was open. I've been daydreaming about its possibilities ever since. After reading a few reviews on Tripadvisor, I unders...

Pasadena Rose Parade mural

I was in the Colorado Blvd. branch of Chase (formerly WaMu, nee Home Savings) the other day and the spectacularly baroque 1960s(?) Rose Parade mural is now obscured by a nice tan wall. It seems like a Starbucks exploded inside the branch. Just as I was thinking about expressing my disappointment to ...

Thanks

Thank you both for your thoughtful replies. To get (a little) more specific, the piece I'm interested in reproducing was made for commercial use originally. The aesthetic design was patented in the '40s by an industrial designer who was working for a company. The patent was good for 14 years. The or...

Furniture copyrights, patents and authorized reproductions

So as not to hijack onestopmodern's previous post, does anyone know of a place online that summarizes copyright and such as it pertains to furniture, lighting, etc? As an example, if a table received a patent 50 years ago, is now out of production and its original maker defunct, is there a copyright...

Thanks for the heads up, Nichols. We have EPHS cars en route. Up to now, it's been our understanding that the work primarily involves changing the interior check cashing window into a full service deli & flower stand (Echo Park is a-changing...) I'll post an update when we've got the full story....
