Re: House Plans

Tikiyaki, If you need house plans, you should come over to see my library. I'm sure you'll be able to find something. Yea, definitely...that'd be great.I'm guessing you have a great collection of plans. I definitely want something Eichler-esque with an Atrium, but with some Neutra elements for sure...

Re: I remember going there

Although the Ford and the Futurama GM and the IBM rides the lines were really really long so we didn't go on them. My dad took a few pics. I'll have to see if he still has some of the slides. I guess some of the structures are still remaining. Yes...some of them are still there, tho there was some ...

World's Fair Photos

Hey, I found some cool photos of the 64-65' World's Fair online, thought I'd share them. I was lucky enough to have been there in 65', tho' I was only 2. I wish they would still build stuff that looks like this... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tikiyaki/Unisphere65.jpg http://i2.photobucket.co...

Hey, congratulations Tikiyaki - I saw that you won the bidding war for the vintage house plans booklet listed on Ebay. Can't wait to hear which model you've chosen for your future abode! Marsha Oh, man, did I outbid you ? Sorry if I did. I'll bring it to one of the Foothill Moderns meetings if you ...

Re: Great idea

I thinks it's a great idea and looks well made, but it does not match my decor. It would look great over a bamboo bar. Beats a dead blowfish! Yes...it's definitely more for your tiki bar than your MCM home....I'm guessing that the good folks on the Tiki Central board would LOVE these things. If I h...

Question on building MCM new

Got a question.... Anyone know if you can build a new MCM home that looks like or uses the plans of , say, an Eichler or Neutra ? I would think that there are copyright laws on this stuff, but home designs were ripped off all the time back in the day. If it's a matter of changing things...to what ex...

Thanx Carlos for the info ! That's exactly what I needed to know...in plain English.

Chimay...this sheetrocking thing is a definite law ? That's a bummer if so. Ever think about covering the sheetrock with wood, like 1/4" maple or something, just to still have the look of wood ?

The only code restrictions that I know about have to do with tempered glass - I believe it has to be tempered (at least in GA) if the glass is within 18 inches of the floor or over a certain size in square footage. -- John That's what I understood to be the law here as well... Chimay, why are wood ...

Exactly ! One of my motivations as a designer/woodworker is to see how much "feeling" can be derived from some simple straight boards, thoughtfully proportioned and put together with economy of means. Why gild the lily ? SDR Most of my favorite houses involve wood heavily in the aesthetic... I espe...

CA Laws on window walls on new construction

Anyone know the laws on large expanses of glass in new construction in CA ? I've heard that you're not really allowed to buildnew houses like the Neutras and Eichlers with floor to ceiling glass. I'm considering building a post and beam house new and I'm curious about this. Anyone know the deal with...

Looks like the bamboo "drapery" shown above, is able to accomodate unwanted obstructions ? What's hiding bwehind those curious vertical bulges, do you suppose. . .? I like your solution so your dog doesn't dig. It's enough "dirt" so that it doesn't look paved over, but will seem paved over to your dog. Good job! Well...she DID dig in there a little. To me, the Nelsons are the perfect MCM light. There are like 4 or 5 designs to choose from, and they look so great. Some cliche's are cliche's for a reason...they work.

good job Tiki. I have a similar space needing a better backdrop. I was thinking of bamboo screens like what chimay has on one of his fences. This is another idea... It appears that careful thought was given to achieving some sort of graceful balance between heartwood and sapwood. . .not an easy task. Fun With Redwood pt. 2

So, a few weeks back I mentioned that I would be building some lattice fances to screen out the back of the neighbors fence. So here it is. I used 1/4' redwood benderboard for the slats and split 2x4's into 2x2's for the posts. As well as burying the posts into the ground, I attached the fences to t...

Re: Help - painting and decorating a 1953 SOCAL ranch

I would like to frame out the doorway to the TV room, and add small crown molding to the ceiling, to draw your eyes up and make the ceiling look taller. My wife says molding along the ceiling will ruin the 1950's architecture - clean lines and no clutter. Listen to your wife (at least in this insta...
