Mine are maked on the back outside curve, at the place where your butt crack would be when sitting. In raised, molded letters are "Casala, Model 2007/2008, Made in Western Germany". Since I bought mine at the Pasadena flea market in 1998 I'm thinking they were from the original 70s product...

They were made by a German company, Casala in the 1970s. My are so marked so they are probably vintage.

I see that they are now being made again:

Maybe they aren't marking the new ones?

Julius Shulman Photos at the Getty Online

This may be old news for some, but I've been waiting for the Getty to make some of the Julius Shulman photos available online. They have a great selection of high resolution photos, many of which have not been seen by this eye. http://archives.getty.edu/R/?func=search-advanced-go&local_base=GEN0...

John Keil for Brown Saltman

Hello, I recently purchased this great little side table with a matching coffee table. The label says designed by John Keil (not John Keal!). Does anyone know anything about this particular designer or approximate age of the piece? http://u.jimdo.com/www34/o/s98075ace17c2cb01/img/i1a9bb5509e465556/1...

If you've never been to this gallery I'd recommend it. It's a treasure trove of little seen mid-century design. The prices are off the charts but other than a museum, there's no other place in LA where you can see and touch designs by nearly all of the greats.

As a follow up, I did find a guy out here in Redlands who made the countertop for me with a nice glossy white laminate. I don't know who his supplier is. He also was willing to make it thinner than is the current standard which gives the whole thing a much more mid-century look. (I tried to post a p...

Thanks for that Scowsa. I did see that page but it simply refers to various types of finishes for all their products. Unfortunately when you actually go the color samples you then find that they are available in all of the finishes.

It's interesting to find that glossy white is an exotic choice!

Source for White Glossy Laminate?

Hey all,

We are redoing a counter and I have been looking for a source for White Gloss laminate. I can find plenty of sources for Matte but so far I haven't found Gloss.

Anyone have a source? Thanks in advance.

Old Lyme, CT - Fantastic Brutalist House on the Market

Toured this house yesterday. I have no connection other than wanting it for myself. Built in 1970, this house is a rare example of domestic Brutalist architecture, a style more often seen in larger civic structures. Materials are raw concrete, glass, cypress and slate. There's not one painted surfac...
