Agreed. I have used these on my last two houses and they are great. I'm not sure why a house number should cost $48 but that's just me.

Visit the John Lautner designed Pearlman Cabin!

Here's a heads up. Nancy Pearlman is opening the Lautner designed Pearlman cabin for visitors. Located in Idyllwild, the cabin is a modern/rustic creation that's a special treat. We toured the place during Palm Springs modernism (in a blizzard!) but it should be more pleasant in April. Nancy is a ge...

LA Modern auctions had one in their June 7, 2009 auction. It sold for $2,000.00. If you go to their site and view past auction catalogs you can see it pictured. It was lot 224, Dining suite (table and 6 chairs). According to the description, the set was designed by Maximilian Karp, circa 1950. I als...

I don't think the new renters are the ones who have made those changes. The blog mentions that their unit is composed of two that were previously connected. Kind of a shame that happened - these were such wonderful, minimal living spaces. That being said, it appears that much remains of the original...

Apparently Schindler died before the house could be completed. Scheine reports that not all of the interior work was completed as Schindler envisioned. I would agree that from the exterior the house doesn't look too outstanding but I think it's the interior that is pure RMS. According to Scheine, Sc...

I checked out a copy at the library first. It is comprehensive but doesn't really add too much more to the literature than what has been previously documented in other histories. I also found a few errors which was suprising. Lastly, the photos are generally ones which have already been well publish...

Question on "Architecture of the Sun: Los Angeles Moder

Does anyone have a copy of this book? I have not seen it yet and was wondering if it contains any new photographs or analysis of modern architecture in Southern California? I'd like to know a bit more about it before I purchase as it's not an inexpensive book. Thanks.

That is a great plan. I like the private patio off the second bedroom and they lines of the living room patio with the integrated planting area.

Why can't they build such small and elegant houses like this one anymore?
