Stopped by last week and the place looks great. The fence had just come down in time for the grand re-opening. Sad to see the swimming pool go but it's a small price to pay. The sea wasn't smelling at all this time of year. Those portholes frame magnificient views of the mountains and water - just i...

I hope you guys are correct. Six months isn't a great deal of time, but I would think the new owner would at least want to tarp the roof and maybe get a cyclone fence around the thing. I know I would if it were my project. For all you Schindler fans, it's a good time to take a look around (just in c...

Finally got to drive by the house. Sad to report that absolutely nothing appears to be happening. There is no sign of human life, no evidence that work of any kind is occurring. There is a plastic tarp thrown over part of the roof that has pulled away. Anybody have any information? I fear that this ...

Thanks for this. We stopped by the exhibit and it was a splendid chance to experience this house. I had always been curious about how the inner bath core worked and now I know. I urge anyone who wants to see this incredible house to register with the gallery as we were told they be having other show...

The Bonenberger guide is a fantastic little book. Designed by Alvin Lustig, it's full of addresses for many unknown or hard to find modern houses in Southern California. I believe it was written as a guide for visiting architects as it tells you how to tour any of the houses inside - things like &qu...

Laguna Beach - Historic "Hangover House" on Market

Wow, I've been wondering about this house for a long time. The 1937 house was built for doomed writer/explorer Richard Halliburton and designed by modernist architect William Alexander. Here's a rare glimpse into this little known house which appears to be in original condition down to the map in Ha...

So what's wrong with designing handbags? Somebody's got to do it! I think the comment about today's standards refers more to the systems and fabric of the house rather than its design. I was inside this place - it was literally falling apart and would have done so without serious intervention. Not m...

Wasn't that entire section of Wonderland Park developed as a "modern" community? I think that is why the Koenig house is there.

I would imagine all of Neutra's work has been documented by this point.

Beautiful restoration job done on one of the three Schindler designed spec houses on Ellis Avenue in Westchester from this month's Architectural Record magazine. http://archrecord.construction.com/features/recounting_modernism/houses-3.asp# http://archrecord.construction.com/features/recounting_mode...

It's my understanding that the seals for older microwave ovens can become faulty and potentially "leak" more radiation than is considered acceptable by those who rate such stuff. Might not be a big deal, but could potentially be harmful for pregnant women or small children. I love vintage ...

Delicious! It looks like a bit of work will make the place shine. I spot a few choices left over from the 1980s that don't look too hard to send back to the Reagan years! Please keep us posted with your progress.

You could add a junction box where the romex exits the beam and then swag a couple of lights off of it.

This does look like the David Henken house. This makes sense as all of the original furniture for the house was auctioned off about two years ago. I was lucky enough to land one of the settees for my own house. It is unfortunate that these little houses grew but I supposed it's all about location. T...

Not to hijack this thread but since you asked... Being a Schindler nut it was a great treat to get inside both the McAlmon and How houses. There are always surprises to find in any of Schindler's designs, little quirky idiosyncracies that never appear in the photos. In the How it was the closet with...

Great news. But it's my understanding that the original drawings for this house are not in the archive and that was part of the reason why A.D. Modlin felt it was urgent to document the house before it was potentially completely lost. Hopefully the interior was documented by Shulman or other photogr...

Yeah, I was thinking Michael LaFetra too. I had the privilege of seeing the How house this weekend during the MAK architecture tour and it is pristine. My friend felt it had been "over restored" and seemed a bit sterile but I think it was because unlike the other houses on the tour, no one...

Not sure if this is good or bad news for the house. Seems like all parties want to restore the place so that is a really good thing. Any thoughts on who the potential new owner might be?

A bit too much white paint perhaps but otherwise affordable modern house at $299,000. Check out the two vintage shots at the end.

Maybe not a house to commute from but you can make the drive into LA in about an hour when it's not rush hour. Seems like someone in LA could snatch this up as a fab getaway.

Amazing in this day and age a great looking Neutra can still be listed as a "contractor's dream."
