One other Halloween appropriate very eerie chapter on this little house. It is an estate sale, and EVERYTHING was just left in the house. A company did an estate sale and sold off a lot of the good mod furniture and art, but loads of good books, as well as all the personal items from clothes, to can...

I wonder how many of those type of lights have hit the trash heaps in favor of the "boob" lights from Home Depot. You know the ones, with the bright shiny brass base and "nipple." Yuck!!

Price reduction to $164,900. The carpets have all been pulled out on this one since the photos were taken and the hardwoods look great. This one is so original with a lot of nice details, (roman brick fireplace, original cabinetry, smooth maple paneling, original baths, etc). It is the lowest priced...

I really wasn't able to capture in photos half of the cool things about this house. If you look closely at the living room shot at the window on the left sort of corner, all the windows down that side are sort of mondrian patterned with a solid accent piece, which is marble. That side of the house i...

Houston~ Uber cool MCM owned by McMansion builder

The owner of this drop dead fine MCM is a McMansion builder. It is located in a very good section of Houston, inside the loop off Braeswood. It has a large lot, over 15,000 sf and the value of the dirt runs about $50 psf. So lot value is at least $750,000. I don't know what he paid for it, but his m...

Well, you can always trek over to Houston, we can still hook you up with a good mod on the cheap. You don't even want to know how much they came off the asking price of $65,000 for this fixer upper by Memphis Architect Mel O'Brien. http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/index.php?showtopic=16915

Houston TX ~ One of Glenbrook's top mods coming up $180k

I know of one that will be hitting MLS next week. The house needs attention, but luckily, it has not been messed with, it is just deferred maintenance. I don't know who designed it, but it was one of the 6 original model homes for the subdivision and a 1954 Parade of Homes house. Architecturally, th...

When I bought the last house there were square cut outs on the hardwoods where they installed new slab piers (It's a Houston gumbo soil thing). So when I had the hardwoods refinished the guy "rewove" new pieces of solid oak in with the existing and refinished it all at once. There is no wa...

I went by that first house today, the one with the garage underneath it, and even though the trees had survived, albeit with damage, they just cut them completely down. I'll just add it to the list of things they shouldn't have done with that house. I am still in exile with no power. Part of the unl...

The houses and the people are all generally okay, it is the tree situation that is so bad. I am in exile right now to get access to power. IKE b***h slaps my neighborhood - pics

In many ways we are lucky. Very, very few people have any structural damage, and those that did it is limited to what was caused by falling trees, (like that isn't bad enough). The loss to the trees is really, really bad though. Glenbrook is on the southeast side, only about 35 minutes northwest of ...

Houston~ Ultra Swank Glenbrook Valley ranch over 3300 sf

This is a good one. In flat as a pancake Houston it sits up on a hilly cul de sac lot in Glenbrook Valley's best section. The house is over 3,300 sf on a lot over 13,000 sf. Per the original owner (the house has only had 2), the exterior is antique Chicago brick with cedar siding and redwood eaves, ...

I guess gates is a misnomer, more of a subdivision sign, marker, that sort of thing, that you have at the entrance to the neighborhood.

Mid-Century themed entrance gates.

We are looking at redoing some entrance gates to the neighborhood and have been trying to come up with something with a nod to the mid-century heritage. Does anybody have any pics of good ones?

Houston~ Very original Glenbrook Valley roman brick rambler

This one is like a time capsule, non of the stained woodwork has been painted, there are hardwoods that have always been under carpet. Formals, den, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. Good block. $176,000. I really hope someone that appreciates the original look gets it. It seems like such a waste for it not to. ...
