I am REALLY hoping our experience is a unique one in the process, trust me on that.

I am glad it is over, and I am really glad we got this.

We Got our Mod Historic District Finally!

After a couple of years of work, and a lot of controversy, (you have no idea), Glenbrook Valley was established as a protected historic district in Houston. At 1,256 homes it is one of the larger mid-century historic districts, developed between 1953 and 1962. As far as I know it is the first post W...

Houston, TX Glenbrook Valley MCM

This one has a number of cool little details: http://search.har.com/engine/8210-Dover-Houston-TX-77061_HAR48833654.htm The entry hall has the original flagstone flooring which looks great, along with brick interior walls that extend into the den. The den is sunken and the kitchen still has the origi...

We've done all the top ten mythbusting. Put facts in the newsletter, did mail outs countering the anti designation crowd's misinformation, but it is a whole lot easier to scare people apparently, and that has worked in the anti designation's favor.

What a situation it is. The whole process started with the city planning department issuing us an invitation to go through what they called the "Project Leadership Institute." This was a one night a week, 6 week training program where volunteers learned the process to become a historic dis...

Creating a historic district

I am sure there are some of you out there in lottaliving land that have beeen involved in establishing mid-century historic districts. Can you share the kind of opposition and problems you had? I am trying to figure out how normal our situation is with out proposed historic district.

Houston, TX- Glenbrook Valley Atomic Ranch, 3000+ Sq ft

Another one in Glenbrook Valley, currently pending to become Texas' first mid-century historic district. This one is on Santa Elena, one of the best streets in there. This isn't so much a modern as just a swanky, very early 60's atomic ranch with a fun dose of kitsch. It has a lot of custom details ...

Houston, TX -Train wreck MCM ranch foreclosure with ballroom

This is not one of my listings, but I am hoping a good person gets it. It was once a showplace ranch style home in the neighborhood. Unfortunately some ignorant people bought it back in 2004 and trashed it. It could, however, be restored. It is around 4,100 sq ft and has a gigantic ballroom and sepa...

As a Realtor in Houston I found a lot of the things not to be as true here. I can agree with not wanting the formal living room. In the MCM houses though, it is usually more open than the traditional houses & it isn't so much of an issue. In the more traditional layouts you find people removing ...

Houston, TX "Sputnik House" for lease $1,400

This icon of Glenbrook Valley has come up as a rental following a full restoration. The current owners did a good job of keeping original elements, down to the pink appliances in pristine condition. Being a rental, though, I just hope the right person gets it. The listing agent doesn't have a good p...

Houston, TX Boom-a-rang mod $129,000

I have always kept tabs on this house in my neighborhood. It was on the market back in 2004 and I tried to get some clients in gear to buy it but they fooled around and wouldn't get in gear and some people who weren't in a position to give it the attention it deserves ended up with it. They put it o...

Heavy emphasis on "giant." I have not been in the house but those that have indicated the main house was restored well, but the addition doesn't benefit the house in their opinion. Still, it is a nice property. There are a couple of others on there that are really spectacular. Especially t...

Spinning a mod house 180 degrees as art?

There is an artist taking this modest mod house in the Sharpstown section of Houston and spinning it 180 degrees on the lot as an art installation. Please don't ask me to explain, I just don't know. There are some links at the bottom of the swamplot article with more info. http://swamplot.com/protot...

In that on brochure you have posted on your website it looks like there was one builder in Dallas who was authorized to build the Cliff May houses in all of Texas. Is that correct? I can't read his name on your photo, what is it?

They will only be on sale at the event for the first 30 minutes at the church, so it is better to get them in advance. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/roberts/Glenbrook%20Valle...

Can you share the article or what it says? There might be a clue that would give me an idea. I would love to know if there are any. The entire Memorial area, Meyerland, Glenbrook Valley all would not be candidates for it. They were all upscale in the 50's. If they are here they were probably in Shar...
