It was a beautiful place with a significant history. It was also very much like Art School Confidential, minus the murders of course. My ex transferred to SF State where you got a studio, some class time and were expected to produce art. At Cranbrook a fellow student called her a lady of ill repute ...

Cranbrook Academy of Art

Metropolis is an interesting magazine on architecture, preservation an design. This issue includes an article on Cranbrook Academy of Art. My former wife attended there as a printmaking student in the early '80's and I loved the campus. I remember being in the library reading a book by Lee Simonson,...

Re: hi-fi restoration

Once you get a Hi Fi you must get a copy(ies) of Stan Freberg's routines on Hi Fi (once you hear them you will pronounce Hi Fi differently. There are some on YouTube but not the best ones. You don't need speakers. The whole HOUSE becomes a speaker! You move into the garage. Some great site for info,...

Back in 1963 we traveled from NYC to LA after dad retired from the Army. Six kids in a baby blue 1957 Rambler American Cross Country Station Wagon (imagine the looks of the German locals as we tooled by). Anyway we stopped at Yellowstone where we had some bear trouble and the Rangers came by to coll...

Amazing. I wonder what they paid considering the condition. I found an online auction site that listed real estate owned, etc. If they had pics of interiors they were trashed usually and sometimes the exteriors had the blue tarp over the roof or evidence of fire. Of course the opening bids were 1 to...

Re: Dallas, TX - Cliff May - $157,900

Seems to have had a price drop to 149,900. I usually wish that when someone buys a place to flip that they'd just give me the cash instead. Of course I don't know how unmolested it was to begin with.

Re: Ojai, CA. Walker Residence, 1959. $3,995,000

I grew up here, well, not here but in Ojai. Looking back through a more educated eye there was quite a range of MCM from our ranch to the upscale homes of the Arbolada and the even more impressive East End homes. I had friends whose families had money and, "to die for" comes to mind.

Huge MCM Living Estate Sale

I am not leaving MCM but having moved into a condo I find myself with about 3/4's of a garage full of MCM items I want to sell. Two Bertoia side chairs, includes detachable back and seat pads. The back pads made from bark cloth bought at the Frank Cuthbert estate sale, (architect and landscape desig...

FS- Bertoia, Wormley And Tons More

I am in the process of prepping my house for sale and I am thinning my MCM collection. I have 2 Bertoia chairs both were powder coated. They each have a seat and back cushions I had made. The bark cloth for the cushions came from Frederick Cuthbert's estate, (as in Cuthbert Ampitheater), he was Head...

FS- AMI/ROWE R-85 Startlight Jukebox

I am selling my AMI/ROWE R-85, I purchased it last fall. It dates to the early-mid '70s as it has the Disco Light option. It holds up to 200 45s and can be set to pay or free play. It has options like Most/Least Popular and will track what is played and how often. I found a web site that gives free ...

Modern entertainment center for sale.

Interesting Bio, I grew up in Ojai, (Krishnamurti Center, Krotona Institute, Meditation Mount, Liberal Catholic Church HQ, Chumash Indian sites), some nice residential architecture. Your pictures and CAD images need some context in order read them better. For me it's, Dvorák Serenade for Strings.

Rods. Customs & What Detroit Got Right?

Sweet wheels. It is nice to see cars that aren't over done. I had a 1963 Rambler American 440 that i was going to shvae, chrome, body color match and recess the bumpers... I sold it to get a 1966 Olds Toronado, one of the few cars I I met that needed almost nothing, the designers hadn't mussed and f...

Has anyone considered using it as a house? I think it would look swell. Just need to find the right residential lot.

Howdy, Howdy, Howdy!

I have been a fan of MCM for all of my adult life. It hasn't been my only interest, I had a house full of Art & Crafts pieces, I had a living room of Art Deco at another house. I have owned vinage cars, electronics, clothes, toys, I just get a kick out of great design. Nothing wrong with fun or ...
