San Gabriel, CA - Disney animator Ward Kimball's house

Postby KevinEP » Sun Oct 10, 2010 8:37 am

Looks like it's already pending, but the longtime home of Ward & Betty Kimball is up for sale. ... yID=813007

One of my childhood heroes, Kimball was one of Disney's original "Nine Old Men" and the creator of a number of iconic Disney characters.

Ward was a train nut like no other, having built a complete narrow gauge railroad in their roughly 3 acre backyard.

When built in 1939, the house and its large lot were still surrounded by orange groves.

Ward died in 2002. With the death of his wife Betty last year, the home has been put up for sale. Demolition and subdivision of this large parcel seems likely.

The trains were donated to the Orange Empire Railway Museum and the station has gone to Northern California, but some of the buildings seem to still be on site.
