great space! still can figure out why so many beams get painted on eichlers as if they're trying to blend in with everything. Blessed mine never got painted since build in '56.

as far as i can tell, they come painted per original (i.e.: they came that way). they're redwood, so not the most attractive raw wood (and wouldn't look right next to the mahogany used in the house).

I doubt the beams are redwood, more likely douglas fir. In my Cliff May they where also "painted" (actually solid color stain) because they show to the outside through clear story windows, just like they do here. I doubt they were originally white, more likely a brown or charcoal.
This place is unbelievably original.
