Hi Boris,
Check your PM's.
Blue
You ask me why I stay
On this blue mountain?
I smile but do not answer.
My mind is at ease!
Peach blossoms
And flowing streams
Pass away without a trace.
How different from
The mundane world!

One of the best resources in Denver is Mile Hi Modern (www.milehimodern.com). I have only heard great things about Craig Mayer. There is a great driving tour on his website. The neighborhood with Cliff May homes is Harvey Park. Other MCM neighborhood would be Araphahoe Acres, Krisana Park, Lynwood - just to name a few.

Try this:
It says this area is the largest enclave :-) of Cliff Mays in Denver, BTW...

*Also, which forum does one use to say hello for the first time and introduce themselves?*

Cliff May in Denver

Postby Dallasmodern » Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:08 am

As I was flipping through channels last night I came across an episode of House Hunters on HGTV. One of the homes on profile appeared to be a prefab Cliff May in a suburban Denver neighborhood. However, no mention was made of Cliff May. Did anyone else see this?

I "googled" Harvey Park and wasn't able to find very much online. I asume there are other Cliff May homes in the neighborhood?

Harvey Park does have lots of Cliff May pre-fabs. There are also other MCM homes in the neighborhood...

Unfortunately, most owners don't understand these homes and I've seen a lot of insensitive alterations. The main change is covering over the clerestory windows and/or minimizing the floor to ceiling windows. I have to assume the primary reason was an effort to retain heat... We do see a lot of sunshine and blue skies around here, but it also gets cold.

Here are some current examples of what's for sale:

I really think there's needs to be a "Guide to Remodeling Your Cliff May: Maximizing Value and Architect Friendships."

I'm not talking about a heavy-handed, pedantic preservation diatribe, but more of an honestly written article for those new to Cliff May ownership. Something that guides people to maximizing the house for their lifestyle and really working with the grain of the house's design instead of against it.

As an aside, I've been thinking some kind of annual "Cliff May Weekend" might be fun. Obviously, we'd want to have it in May. It seems like the Kansas City peeps have really perfected that kind of thing and I think it might be fun.

I'm sure you noticed the prices on these. Affordable for first time home buyers who are drawn to them because they are generally brighter and feel larger than the more traditional ranch homes in the same price range.

When these homes sell, Stephen, I do have an urge to send the new owners information on what they've purchased and how to maximize their investment.

In fact, I did take a new owner around town to show them examples of what to do and what not to do to their newly acquired MCM. To my dismay, they recently showed me their freshly texturized walls, faux granite formica and new pedestal sink. Sigh...
