I posted my observations about the houses in this movie and I think it disappeared! They are far out incredible Palmer & Krisel style butterfly roof beauties. I like.

LOS ANGELES TIMES

A 'Speed Racer' time warp

Some of the home sets in the new film "Speed Racer" are as wild as the action on the racetrack. "We were trying to make the film quite timeless, retro and midcentury, but set sometime in the future," says Owen Paterson, the production designer...

Interesting, in the LA Times article the production designer denies doing any filming in Palm Springs, yet the house in the still frame in front of the video on boingboing is clearly one of the Swiss Miss houses of Palm Springs.

Incidentally, I rented one of the Swiss Misses on a recent vacation and the rental service claims the house/neighborhood was used in the filming: http://www.vacationpalmsprings.com/home ... mas-rental

Yeah, looks like it was semi-recreated digitally:

LATIMES

...Although Paterson and his team did tour the California desert and the Los Angeles area looking at midcentury architecture for inspiration for the Racer home, the cast and crew never filmed in Southern California...before physical production began, location scouts and photographers traveled the world taking 360-degree, high-definition photos of settings that later were dropped into the scenes using green-screen technology...
