The Neon Cruise, Los Angeles, on the road in '08

The Museum of Neon Art's (MONA) Neon Cruises of nighttime Los Angeles have begun.

For those of you not in the know, the Neon Cruise is a three-hour tour of our illuminated city, Los Angeles. It begins with wine, beer and appetizers at the museum's temporary location on 4th Street, near Main, in downtown. From there, we'll board our vintage, double-decker British bus and hit the road for the sights and sounds of the big city. The bus will zigzag from the Broadway Theater district to Hollywood to the Wilshire Corridor in our search for the biggest and brightest neon signs and the architectural, cultural and culinary history of LA.

We'll have two intermissions on the tour which will very likely be in Chinatown and the Fairfax district. We'll stop at Gin Ling Way for shopping and drinks, but we'll also open up the stunning Hong Building for a special, private viewing of the vintage-1938 Hong offices and its gallery's current exhibit of historic Chinatown postcards.

This tour is open to everyone, of course, but it's really for us Los Angeles natives. If you think you know Los Angeles, then get on the bus for a Neon Cruise and see the city in a new light (pun intended).

Tours run every Saturday night through November 2008. Tickets for members are $45 and non-members, $55.
