What is it about the name Walter that makes those people seem so avuncular?

I saw a post on another group with an interesting observation; in the 50s and 60s we had two father-figure types on tv named Walt, with moustaches...one dealt in fantasy, the other in facts. Even though they were crazy times, there was a certain cosmic balance there.
That's either deep or gibberish, but I like how it sounds.

Walt

Postby mark71665 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 6:29 pm

My godfather was Walt. A nice guy; a rather dashing fellow, actually, looking like a million in polyester and turtlenecks. He sold shoes for a living. No mustache, but he had killer '70's sideburns and a slick comb-over. He looked like he could be a model in one of those old 1975 Ford LTD ads of the era. :)

Dashing, turtlenecks, killer 70's sideburns … Mark, was your godfather Walt Frazier?

That’s so cool! And Walt Frazier was, after all, the Godfather of Cool.

Sorry to gunk up your tribute thread, Mr. C., but that’s the way it is, Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

LATIMES

Cronkite's voice will stay on air

CBS says the voice of Walter Cronkite will continue to be heard announcing the "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric."... Immediately after his death Friday at age 92, the network had planned to retire the recording but reconsidered. Members of Cronkite's family gave their blessing to the decision to continue using his voice, said CBS News spokesman Jeff Ballabon...
