Guitar legend Les Paul dies at age 94
By LUKE SHERIDAN (AP) – 13 minutes ago
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday. He was 94.
According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.
He had been hospitalized in February 2006 when he learned he won two Grammys for an album he released after his 90th birthday, "Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played."
"I feel like a condemned building with a new flagpole on it," he joked...

The day the music REALLY died....

Despite Les Paul's amazing technical ability ( musical and otherwise), he never really sounded as good as he did with Mary Ford. While he seems like a fun guy, it's pretty clear he didn't do right by her when they broke up.
Stories abound....maybe now that he is gone, the real story will come out.

LOVE, love LOVE them together. Absolutely one of the most amazing combinations ever. As a singer, he really "got" her, but until I saw some of their old TV shows, I never realized how truly amazing she was in her own right, as a guitarist as well. And just try finding that pure and clean of a voice these days. Doesn't work to overdub a sloppy vibrato. What a seamless pair they were on tape. Amazing.

Here's a great sample of them geeking out-

and checking for bathroom acoustics;

But as far as I am concerned-this is the BEST:

Love Les, but Love love LOVE Les and Mary together.

Nothing will EVER sound like that again.

Here's a bit about the history of the Gibson Les Paul from the National Music Museum in Vermillion, SD.

Here's the story of another Gibson model that made history: B.B. King's Lucille.
