new name that tune - show tunes

Postby sky » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:34 pm

So ...

Listen to the tunes with this link:

http://lrd.bigdogwebpages.com/mcmntt.ph ... =showtunes

Then post the name of the song below (in the form of a question, of course).

Check your answer and the score with this link:

http://lrd.bigdogwebpages.com/qcheck.php?quizno=3

Note that the songs have already been weighted for scoring: 1 point for easy, 2 for hard, and 3 for you're never going to get it.

Also note that these songs can be from any period. (Is there anything specific about show tunes from the MCM period that is unique?)

NOW soundtracks are MY category. Futura Girl Pawns!

1. What is the name of this song? (I don't know...but it's from Fiddler)
2.
3. What is What do you get when you fall in love? (it already is a question!) (Promises Promises or Austin Powers Spy Who Shagged Me)
4. Where is Camelot? (sung by Richard Burton)
5. Where do you Put on a Happy Face? ()
6. What is Oh What a Beautiful Morning? (Oklahoma)
7. What are 76 Trombones? (Music Man)
8.
9. What is Send in the Clowns? (A Little Night Music)
10.
11. What is I Could Have Danced All Night? (My Fair Lady)
12. What is... If I were a Rich Man? (Fiddler on the Roof)
13. What is I Believe in you? (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying)
14. What is Everything's Coming Up Roses? (Gypsy)
15. What is I Enjoy Being a Girl? (Flower Drum Song) Sadly I have not ever seen this!
16. Where is New York New York? (On the Town)
17. Where is On Broadway? (From All the Jazz)
18. What is To Dream the Impossible Dream? (Man of La Mancha)
19. Who Has Trouble? (Music Man)
20. What is Whatever Lola Wants? (Damn Yankees)

dilettante did so well on the acronym game... i had to do my best here. I actually auditioned for tv Name That Tune, but it got cancelled before I had a chance (so I went on Wheel of Fortune instead!)
I'm gonna keep on the run... I'm gonna have me some fun if it costs me my very last dime.
If I wind up broke up, well, I'll always remember that I had a swingin' time

I didn't build anything into the auto-scoring that identified song by number, so what you responded to as 12, If I Were a Rich Man, got credit for being the correct answer to No 1 - which you sort of knew anyway, FG. 12 is a little bit harder, which why it's worth more points. (I wouldn't have gotten it and I've seen the show twice!)

I should note that spelling counts for the auto-check, and it has to match the song name as I copied it from my original source. (Generic commas, apostrophes and hyphens don't count, though.)

There are still enough points left to catch Futura Girl. Don't be surprised if her old ntt nemesis, roadsidepictures, beats her to those points!

Oh, and in case I wasn't clear about the qcheck program, it keeps track of the current score by reading this thread. So you can check if you are right immediately after your post.

http://lrd.bigdogwebpages.com/qcheck.php?quizno=3

And further, I just changed it to recheck and update the score every 3 seconds without needing a page refresh. There's an on/off check box at the top left. If it's set to on, and there was a scoring change, then it will give you an alert box.

In fact what you could do is just leave that page open all day long and wait for updates, yours or others.

Note that format will work for just about every game I've ever run on lotta living. If you have questions and answers for your own game, just let me know and I'll set it up. (And yes, I have no life, but I actually enjoy this stuff.)

Okay, okay - I'm going to give you 76 Trombones! (The program was looking for Seventy-Six Trombones, but does have the capability for alternate spellings, which I updated.) But on the other - no points for knowing the lyrics.
