are you smarter than an architect?

Postby sky » Thu Feb 11, 2010 12:27 pm

New game ...

For 10 points each, who is the architect who is being quoted here:

"If I was not optimistic, I would not be an architect"
"The physician can bury his mistakes, but the architect can only advise his client to plant vines"
"Buildings should serve people, not the other way around."
"A time will come when men will stretch out their eyes. They should see planets like our Earth."
"A house is a machine for living in."
"Form ever follows function."
"Architecture is the reaching out for the truth"
"Be truthful, nature only sides with truth"
"Our greatest responsibility is not to be pencils of the past."
"Only work which is the product of inner compulsion can have spiritual meaning."
"When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty."
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
"You are here because Zion is about to be destroyed."
"A chair is a very difficult object. A skyscraper is almost easier. That is why Chippendale is famous."
"Architects are pretty much high-class whores."

Scoring is automatic and immediate. Check your response with this link:

You are indeed smarter than the average architect, dilettante! (Or maybe you are an architect ... or maybe you are a bear, or both.)

You did have on inadvertent correct answer, so I changed the auto-check to allow one correct answer per post. (I grandfathered that rule in, so it does not affect quizzes 1 though 3.)

The following quotes remain:

"A time will come when men will stretch out their eyes. They should see planets like our Earth."
"Architecture is the reaching out for the truth"
"Be truthful, nature only sides with truth"
"Only work which is the product of inner compulsion can have spiritual meaning."
"When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty."
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
"You are here because Zion is about to be destroyed."
"Architects are pretty much high-class whores."

Note that I wasn't sure which part of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was his last name, so I just used "van der Rohe" as the correct response. Still, Mies would not have been enough to score points, FG, nor just Rohe.

(Whoops - didn't mean to edit this, but I think I restored it to its original condition.)

Bonus quote!

For 20 points, first and last name required:

A horse has got to learn to stand on his own four feet.

Point values are now doubled!

Architects are pretty much high-class whores.
Philip Johnson

I called my Architect a lady of ill repute...in the middle of other colorful words, he said Philip Johnson said it first
