"Young Warrior," an Evelyn Ackerman mosaic from the mid-1950s. "She brought mosaics alive in the mid-century by working sometimes in a purely abstract, often geometric, style sometimes in stylized figures animated by a modern color palette," says Bill Stern, founder of the Museum of California Design and an admirer of the Ackermans' work.
