Formica: Celebrating 100 years of design & innovation

"A hundred years ago, a plastic-coated fabric was swapped for the mica commonly used in electrical insulation. Welcome, Formica. Eventually made of paper layers and used as a laminate, it went on to enjoy a long, sly life imitating wood grain and stone. It’s “a no-nonsense, absolutely reliable kind of material,” said Abbott Miller, who has designed four new Formica patterns to honor the centenary."
